Hello.

I have an ASUS M2N-SLI Rev 1.00G motherboard that came with a Raidmax 630 watt power supply. Eventually, the power supply died and I tried to replace it. I tried to use a Coolpower 880 watt supply (the computer supports 3 monitors and I wanted a bit more headroom) but the two I tried both burned out in approx 30 days. The Coolpower used a 12 pin connector to the motherboard with only has a 6 pin connection. Therein, I suspect, lies the problem. Here's my question. Is there a 700+ watt power supply that is compatible with this motherboard?

Thanks.

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

I'm confused about the 6 pin connection you refer to.
Your Mobo uses a 20+4 main power connection plus a 4-pin PSU connection.
Both of the PSU's you have tried are about as poor quality as you can find.
We need to know the complete specs, as listed below, to recommend a power rating but any SeaSonic or XFX PSU is top quality.

CPU-RAM-Graphics-PSU.

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

@Tyree think he may mean the pcie-connector to the gpu from the psu.

To OP I am not suprised that both power supplies died they are both crap and shouldn't be anywhere near a pc.

Please list your full specs.

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

Thanks folks. I'm leaving for work but I'll post the information requested tonight. The 6 pin connector I'm referring to is near the top edge of the motherboard, above the CPU socket. The Raidmax that came with the computer had a connection plugged in there, so I assumed any replacement I got would need a connection plugged in there as well.

Thanks again.

Your motherboard uses a 4 pin connector near the cpu not 4. You would need a psu that would connect to it.

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

Hmm, you are correct, I was misremembering. It is a 4 pin connector. The PSU I tried to use (model CP-G880) has an 8 pin cable that is keyed so I just used half of it. It fit and seemed to work but it seemed like a strange design.

Anyway, the information you requested, as much as I have anyway:

CPU - I know it's an AMD but it's covered with this huge heat sink and I don't see an obvious way to remove it. If it's necessary I'll see what I can do.
RAM - 8 gbs AMP DIMMs
Graphics - BFG Tech Maxcore 55
PSU - Coolpower CP-G880

Thanks much for your help with this!

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

you can download Speecy to check all your hardware without having to disarm it.. those PSU you bought where poor^2.. you got to be careful when buying a PSU cuz that's the heart of your PC..

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

Hmm, kinda tough to DL a program when the power supply is toast :) I'm learning that the PS I bought was, shall we say, less than optimal. Got any recommendations for a replacement?

Thanks much!

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

as above plus power supplies with the 8 pin bit actually split into two 4 pins so you can use it on mobos with a 4 pin

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

Thanks guys. That is exactly the GPU I'm running. I can't tell from the description in the NewEgg ad, does the XFX Pro650W come with the 4 pin connector or do I need to purchase a little cable to split it? The GPU says it requires at least a 525 watt PSU. Is 650W enough overhead or should I get the 750 watt version? I don't plan on upgrading the hardware in this box; I'll go with an entire new system if/when I do that.

Thanks again for all your help. You all are an incredible resource!

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

Good quality PSU's will have all the required connections and more.
650W will be fine.

Re: Power Supply recommendation?

if it has an 8 pin but you require 4 all you do is pop it apart to create two 4 pins it doesnt require anything else. The plastic bit just snaps together or apart depending on what you need.
