[SOLVED] PCI Controller overrides builtin controller? lost HDD? lost controller biosb

Enough of the title, let's get down to business of this wierd problem.

Ok, the facts:

Asus K8V-SE Deluxe
builtin SATA controllers, 1x VIA VT6420 (VT8237) & 1x Promise FastTrak 378
Got 2x sata drives on via, 1x sata drive on Promise.
standard ideports got 2x drives and 1xdvd.

Plugged in Promise Ultra 133 tx2 with 2 more drives.

After this i got my problem.
In boot i do not see my FT378 scan for drives anymore and thus i cant see my FT378 drive anymore.
Unplugged the Ultra133 card and now it's fine again, except i cant use the ultra 133 card and my 2 other drives.

When the ultra 133 card is plugged in, i can boot into windows fine, fire up device manager and i see FT378 with a yellow symbol and the message "device cannot start code 10", again i dont see it in boot anymore, not even in BIOS.
It feels like the Ultra133 pcicard is canceling out the onboard fasttrack controller, the computer only boots 2 BIOSControllers as it seems.

First.
Loads VIA -> Loads Promise FT
if Promise Ultra plugged in
Loads VIA -> skipping Promise FT -> Loads Ultra133

Anyone that could shed some light on this ???

Re: PCI Controller overrides builtin controller? lost HDD? lost controller biosboot.

Could be a conflict between the promise drivers... check promise for updated drivers for both controllers
Re: PCI Controller overrides builtin controller? lost HDD? lost controller biosboot.

Been there first thing.
Tried Asus mobo original drivers, then manufacturers specific ones.
But with no results as the FT378 BIOSBOOT doesnt show when the Ultra133 card is plugged in.

Also noticed that my Netgear GB card dissappeared too, perhaps rearrange the pci slots ?
Gonna try this later, in meantime, anyone got a good tip to resolve this ?
Re: PCI Controller overrides builtin controller? lost HDD? lost controller biosboot.

Solved!

The good thing was that i did not raid my drives on the onboard promise card.
So what i did was setting the promise controler to "ata mode" in bios and the forced a resintall of drivers in winxp, the specific "ata mode" drivers and then presto.

Working nicely now, altho, this would not worked if i had two drives wich were raided from the beginning.
