Hi, on august of the current year, I bought a BioStar P4M900-M7 SE and a couple of Kingstone 2gb DDR2 800Mhz. Well, a couple of weeks ago, my computer just won't boot up, there's energy, fans are on, bout hdd led and power are on, but there won't be anything on screen.

I took my mother to service and check if it was the mother, it worked flawlessly, with bout rams, then i was convinced it was my cpu so i tried to install my cpu on a older motherboard I have (I have a P4 630 at 3.0Ghz) and worked perfectly.

Its pretty weird, from one day to another, my mother just wouldn't accept my CPU, and i didn't move a thing from the BIOS the day before. I updated my BIOS when I installed the whole package, and worked with it for 2 months

Any idea on my problem, here is a link to the list of supported CPU's, and the P4 630 is listed there

Hi CJLopez,
Welcome to TSF.
If your Mobo and CPU appear to work with your Ram, it maybe the Power supply and or Graphics Card.
What are the specs of your PSU (a tag is located on the PSU) Volts and Amps.
Are you using the Integrated Graphics card or an add on card?

Re: Pc won't boot at all

Here comes the specs on my rig

MotherBoard - BioStar P4M900-M7 SE
CPU - P4 HT 630 3.0Ghz Prescott-2M
RAM - 2Gb DDR2 800Mhz Fsb Kingstone x 2 (note that my mother the max FSB supported for ram is 677, so this is downgraded)
VideoCard - nVidia GeForce 7100 GS
PSU - VIOMAX ATX450WA/P4

InPut: 100V-127V/8A - 200V-240V/4A
OutPut: +3.3V+5V+12V-12V-5V+5VSb
MAX(A): 22A 40A 15A 0.8A 0.5A 2A
450WS MAX

Also, yes, i tested several ways to boot up

1.- With bout ram modules (video card on)
2.- Alternating the ram on the banks (video card on)
3.- 1 and 2 withouth the video card

And all took to the same result, power on mother, no video at all

Re: Pc won't boot at all

Oh, sorry, jejeje, english is not my primary language.

No, as I only took my motherboard and ram (which are the only thing the warranty cover) and they tested with a 300 Watts PSU. Sorry i can't give you detail on which one was, but i was told of the PSU cuz they also though maybe my PSU wasn't powerfull enough. Still, i don't think its the PSU, as I used that same one for the 2 months the components where working right.

Re: Pc won't boot at all

When they tested your MoBo at the service center was your Video card (nVidia GeForce 7100 GS) attached to the board or did they test it with the On-Board video? In either case they said it worked Flawlessly with thier 300W PSU.

Your original PSU specs are below the minimum requirements to run your Video card
Your wattage is OK, but this is a PCI-e card and requires [email protected] The specs you posted of your PSU is only [email protected]

You may of had this PSU run on this PC for a few months, but the PSU was underpowered and probably shorted out. I am hoping the PSU did not take anything else with it like your Video card.

As I said before, I believe your issue is a Faulty PSU. This link will explain things a little better and help you select the right PSU for your rig:

Re: Pc won't boot at all

Well, i'm not convinced to call the PSU is at fault, cuz, i'm using my old mobo (ASrock 4CoreDX90-VSTA R2.0) and i have attached my video card on it. When i took it to customer service, no, I only brought the mobo and the ram, bout CPU and video card stayed at my house

Maybe, my ASRock takes less voltage than my BioStar, and thats why is working withouth a problem, but then, maybe that could explain this problems i'm experiencing with my mobo

1.- Whenever i connect my usb, my keyboard stops working, like it isn't recognized
2.- I'm not able to copy files to my usb, everytime I tried it would be deallocated and rellocated again
3.- My mouse (a microsoft optical wired mouse) wouldn't be recognized via PS2 and when plugged on a USB it wouldn't start working. I'm using a wireless mouse, which, has its own energy supply (a AA alcaline battery)
4.- I been having some issues with my hard drive (I have already opened a thread on the hard drive section)

'll ba calling a friend and asking him to lend me his PSU, its a 600 Watts one and he is running an intel motherboard with a core 2 quad, 4gb ram and a 8900GTS so i think its more than enough to what I need to run my rig

In case its not the PSU, could there be anything else causing my problem?
