Hi, I have a HP Pavilion a6077c, it had windows vista on it, I used windows vista's option to resize a partition, where I went to right click my computer, manage, and than partition manager or disk management.
I resized my hard drive to 40 gb and left 220 gb free, I went and formatted my pc to windows xp, than, the next thing I see in partition magic, is that I can't use it, it's just sitting there, the only option I have is undelete, here's a screenshot :

Also undelete doesn't do anything, it just says an error stating that no partitions could be undeleted.
I don't understand, why can't I create a partition with that unallocated space? :4-dontkno
Someone please help me, this is really getting on my nerves. :sigh:

Re: Partition Magic serious help, I lost 228 gb

Hi, welcome to TSF.

What does Disk management say about the partition?
Try expanding the extended partition first.

Re: Partition Magic serious help, I lost 228 gb

Hi, thanks for the welcome message.
What disk management?
I'm running Windows XP right now, I used to have Windows vista when I resized it.
How do I expand the extended partition?

XP's disk management.
Right click "My computer" > choose "Manage" > Disk Management.

See if you can create a new partition there.

You have a problem:
The Linux partitions are placed between the primary and the extended partitions.

Nope, I can't make a partition using windows xp, so how do I fix the Linux partitions?

So you want me to delete the partitions?
But I have data on them.

Ok, but that just resizes it, it doesn't give me an option to move it.

????
Move the data (temporarily) on the D and E partitions to the C partition.
Then - delete the D and E partitions.
Move the Linux partitions to the unallocated space at the "end" of the drive.
Then - create an extended partition after partition C.
Create logical drives (D and E) in the extended partition.
Move the data back to where they belong.

I can't do that because the partition E has system files on it.

You have to move that folder (temporarily) to the C drive (you can move it back when you've created the new E drive).
If you have Partition Magic installed there - uninstall it, then reinstall PM on the C drive.

But how can I move it when it says access denied, I don't have Program Files on C so this one has all the system files.
