I keep getting the error message below when I try to download the folders of my hotmail account into Outlook Express (Version 6).

Access Forbidden

Configuration:
Account: Hotmail
Server: http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp
User name: [email protected]
Protocol: HTTPMail
Port: 0
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 800ccc33

Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: ‘Hotmail’, Server: ‘http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp’, Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: ‘Forbidden’, Port: 0, Secure (SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC33

My username and password are entered correctly. I am not trying to use a proxy server (the proxy server box in LAN settings is unchecked). I do have a firewall, but I'm not sure what to check or uncheck.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Layo.

Did you ever get the answer to that question...?

I also have the same problem. Did you by chance ever get the answer to that question? Thanks,

As a test try turning off your firewall briefly to see if hotmail will work.

Try cancelling your current hotmail account in your mail and do the following. Click on Tools / Accounts / Mail. Click Add then Mail. Put in your display name and click next. Type in your normal e-mail address (not hotmail) and click next. Select HTTP from the dropdown and hotmail from the next dropdown. Your system will detect the server, then click on next. Type in your normal account name and password and click next.

Make sure you are not using a proxy server. If your firewall prompts you to allow the site, click allow.

Let me know if this works.

Hotmail, Outlook and XP Revision 2

So simple, and so sublime! Thanks for this post . . . I use a hotmail account for my EBay sales, and ended up scrubbing XP Revision 2 off of two machines, one requiring a complete rebuild to access my Hotmail accounts in Outlook (I move tracks and threads into archive files).

I stumbled on to this group last night after my daughter allowed the REV 2 upgrade on my machine. After trying all the “fixits” from Microsoft’s online tech support – and no success simply scrubbing “2” off yet another machine (the Hotmail header error remains), I had all but thrown in the towel.

The word “Thanks” does not go far enough to register my appreciation.
