Hey there, I recently bought an Nvidia 9800GTX+ and since then, I have frequently had certain crashes whilst playing games which I did not encounter with my previous graphics card (7900GT).

The crashes occur, without fail, about 30 seconds after starting up games such as Gothic 3 and Oblivion (not on the title screen, when actually in-game) and have occured rarely, in games such as The Sims 2 and CIV IV.

The 'crash' I'm refering to is where the monitor screen goes black (with 'no signal' text appearing across it) and after that my monitor goes onto standby. The sound continues to play, albeit a very stuttery, broken up version of what was previously playing.

I've ran some Nvidia stress tests on my entire system and it passed all of them (I ran it for about three hours, the equivalent of close to 420 stress tests). Thus I am very confused as to what is the issue. I have updated my drivers and it has had no effect.

Any idea what the issue is?

Okay I've fixed it... not entirely sure what it was which solved the issue, but I installed some Windows Updates, the latest driver for my motherboard and tweaked some fan speed/clock speed settings in Riva tuner and voila, problem solved!
