i have a qwest 1.5mbps adsl, qwest actiontect M1000 modem and netgear WGT624 108mbps router. my connection kind of sucks. i can't stream shoutcast music without losing the connection like every 5 minutes. web pages are pretty slow to load and over all i don't feel like i am getting the most out of this. my laptop is an older fujitsu with an airlink PCMI wireless card. Where is my problem? i love streaming music and stuff off the net, if i can't access music like this it drives me insane. i have been on networks in remote china and can stay connected to music streams for hours, even overnight no problem. someone help me understand what I need to do to address this problem. I used to live in italy and had similiar problems with my broadband, now that I am back in the states i thought the problem would be alleviated. is there something i am fundamentally not understanding about my network? all products are new.

cheers

Re: ntwrking blues

also, i had the hp C4385 wireless photoprinter installed and the interface software was causing my system to run at 100%. adsl speed checker shows that my connection is running at 1.3m download and 730k upload. it should be more than ample to stream music.

You can become a member for free! I use and recommend this tool to people all the time, and nobody has ever had to pay to use it.

I know of no other site like this.

If you still have the issue with 100% CPU usage for your printer, I suggest you address that.

Re: ntwrking blues

The Actiontec M1000 is a modem/router, so in it's configuration, it should have a ICMP (PING) option. If it happens to be configured in bridge mode, then the WGT624 would be the place to configure it.

Have you tried connecting directly to the Actiontec modem and seeing if the situation improves?

A final thought. Since you have a router connected to another one, try configuring the WGT624 MTU size to 1492, since it may have defaulted to 1500, which is wrong for DSL.

Re: ntwrking blues

i sort of let this post drop off, i installed a newer version of winamp and the streaming issue seemed to improve. also, i picked up a new laptop with a built in atheros wireless interface. i think the old pcmi wifi card was low quality and causing problems. overall, i seem to to do better and i also changed the mtu setting. thanks for your help
