hi
I have a corsair 650w psu with 52amps on the +12. My problem is that every time i use a video card that needs external power i.e. gts 250 the computer beeps and no display is shown. i've tried 2 video cards that use external power and both beeped and gave no display, i also used an 8400gs and it worked perfectly, the 8400gs doesn't need external power. I tested the gts 250 on another computer and it worked with no problem. My question is how do I test the 6-pin pci-e connector from my psu to make sure it is providing the correct voltage and amperage. I will be checking this post all night so if you need more info please ask. Thanks

Re: not getting power on pci-e wire

Test the PCIe plug preferably with the card installed so the power supply is loaded, the 650tx is a single rail supply so they should all be the same reading.
What motherboard do you have, does it have a four pin molex connector on it to provide power for high power cards?(Some do Some don't)

Re: not getting power on pci-e wire

i have an evga 780i ftw mobo with an e8400 4gb ram, 1 ide hdd, 1 floppy, 1 card reader, 1 scythe 4 channel fan controller. i got 12.3v from the pci-e connector. I don't see a four pin molex connector. still getting long beep after re-seating card, then no display.

Re: not getting power on pci-e wire

ok its not the power supply, could it be the pci-e bus? got the same beep with a different power supply. Its really weird that the 8400gs works great and its pci-ex16, but neither of my pci-e cards with external power work. I'll check the evga forums

Re: not getting power on pci-e wire

You stated you tried all 3 of the PCIe slots?

In the Manual on page 45(55 of the PDF file) set the Reset Configuration Data to enabled before installing the card shut down install the card and see if it will boot> http://www.evga.com/support/manuals/132-YW-E178.pdf

Re: not getting power on pci-e wire

so i dont have that option in the pnp menu. There is nothing under the init display first menu, it goes right to resources controlled by. But i will set the init display first to pciex, maybe that will work

Re: not getting power on pci-e wire

the interesting thing is that the computer boots right up and the LCD display on the mobo gives the code FF which means that their are no errors

Re: not getting power on pci-e wire

that particular beep code says that its video failure and since i know that the video card works it must be the motherboard itself, but that still doesn't explain why the 8400gs works.
