Hey guys, sorry to trouble you but this is starting to drive me crazy and google doesn't seem to show up anything.

I can't get my wireless to work. It seems to connect to my router, but I get the "yellow triangle" and no webpages will load. When I run the troubleshooter it tells me to reset the modem, and that the problem is more ISP related. But... I can cable up to the router and internet works just fine. So the problem isn't ISP related, and everyone else's computers in the house can connect just fine.

Sadly being tethered to my router/modem is not a great option.

ISP - virgin mediaUK cable

Using MSE with MSE firewall

With Xirrus connection test only the gateway reachable passes. Hopefully there is something really obvious that I'm just not doing. Much thanks!!!

Re: No Wireless

and welcome to the Forum

You appear to be connecdted to the router wireless . . and have an IP address:

Please disconnect from the ethernet cable and Type the following commands on separate lines, following each one with the Enter key:

PING 192.168.0.1

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

Re: No Wireless

Hey, thank for the help!

I'm starting to think this is an Atheros 9285 issue, as I've read lots of people have had problems with them. I should also note that I've recently done a clean install of win 7 64. I'm worried that I've messed the drivers up, although I wouldn't be able to connect to my router then would I?

The soft reset doesn't help/change anything.

Re: No Wireless

Hey I'm checking properties in the Wireless Network Adapter, but none of the tabs have that as an option... Is that XP or Win7?

Re: No Wireless

Is ripe.net your ISP? You are not getting out of the router . . Have you done a power cycle?

Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect ot the internet then

Re: No Wireless

no idea on the ripe.net ISP

I've tired the power cycle, nothing. I'm the only comp in the house that is powered on, unless a neighbour is poaching.
Just to clarify the modem/router is a netgear "cable gatway." If that helps. If I leave the ethernet cable unplugged and try to connect wirelessly, It'll allow me to connect, show full bars, then after 10-12 secs it'll show the "yellow triangle" with no internet connection. Why the delay?

Also, here is the ipconfig output with ethernet connected.

Re: No Wireless

Yes the second report is with ethernet cable just for comparing. ISP is Virgin Media (horrible IMHO)
Also, I currently have a later set of drivers 9.2.0.427.

I went to the Asus website for official drivers, (I'm using a Asus UL30VT-a1) and under wireless drivers all they show are intel drivers.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download UL30VT

Re: No Wireless

I have no idea guys!!! I can connect wirelessly, i have an IP address. But no internet.

I've been reading other similar problems, and I'm curious about it being "DNS" related? Does that even make sense?! :frown::cry::banghead:

Re: No Wireless

Nope sorry Old Rich, that didn't work either. Thanks for all the help so far! Are there any reasons why it would connect, wait for 12 seconds or so, and then tell me that there's no internet connection?

Re: No Wireless

Solved!! I went into wireless network connection properties, and TCP/IPv4 properties, and manually set the IP address 1 number higher, and kept all the other numbers from ipconfig/all. And I guess that worked.... Thanks for all your help!!! SO happy to have everything working nicely

Do you guys know why the Gateway would allow a connection that was either blacklisted/already in use?? I'm glad it's sorted, but still a bit curious as to why setting it to automatic would produce bad results...

Once again thanks!
