Are you refering to the small set of icons next to the start bar?
If so right click the taskbar and click to unlock it.
Then right click again and go to toolbars and select quick launch.
Then you can drag any icons that you want to it.
When finished relock it.
Way interersting. When you do this and ask for a shortcut the dialog box asks where will the shortcut be. Browse to the desktop (usually at top) and select that. The icon automatically changes to the familiar "desktop" item in the tray.
I will try this soonest on the problem machine and report back. Just thinking about this I wonder if the magic bar separators will appear when I drag and drop?
I did what you said. The task bar was locked so I unmarked that. After making the desktop shortcut from above post, I dragged it down to the bottom left (Quick Launch if you will) and the Quick Launch divider was established. It looks like it should now-- until the next time I muck it up which all too easy.
