Hi guys,
I was trying to get Partition Magic to run 2 operating systems.. I made a seperate partition and set it to install xp.

However it crashed while installing the 2nd OS. and now i get stuck at a screen saying "NTLDR is missing, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart"
if i restart same thing.
If i boot from an xp disk it tries to install but never gets through .. it will crash with an error that says "windows has shut down to prevent damage to you......"

So basicly I cant even start my computer.... I cant access anything..
Im not sure wat to do becuz no recovery disk seems to work.
Im thinking im stuck in a partition in my hard drive ..

What can I do? Is there anyway to fdisk this thing?
perhaps trying to create a dos boot disk and fdisk?
would that enable me to erase the entire HD and install xp later?

thanks in advance for any help!

Re: NEWB - Partition Magic Crash - Cant Boot - FDISK solution?

Hi philio63 and welcome to TSF

If you have nothing on the drive you want then pop in your XP Disk and boot off of it. Then delete both partitions and create the 2 partitions once again. Then recreate it and try the installation once again. We will try other things if the installations dosen't go through again. Also, access your BIOS and read me the temperatures and voltages of your PC if there is some kind on system monitor page in there.

EDIT: Also, yes Killdisk will work fine

Re: NEWB - Partition Magic Crash - Cant Boot - FDISK solution?

hi techpro, thanks

The problem im having is I cant boot from the cd - i put in the original xp cd.. but as it installs it crashes half way and says "windows is has shut down to prevent damage ... (sumthing like that)

I tried checking the temperature and voltage, my system bios is Dell system DXG061 - i think
but it doesnt provide any such data.

I will need that exact error message, to work any farther and also, can you boot into Windows normally? Can you get to the desktop?

Re: NEWB - Partition Magic Crash - Cant Boot - FDISK solution?

Well I came up with a quick fix..
I used killdisk to wipe out a few of the partitions that i thought the corrupted operating system (the second operatings system) was on.

Then I used fdisk, from a boot disk .iso burned to a cd rom.
I used this primarly to activate the partition where the original operating system was..
However that operating system was partially corrupted for sum reason
Then i used killdisk to wipe that partition clean..

then i was able to install the original Operating system on the clean slate.

I think it was confusing because this computer has 3 hard disk... 1000gig total.. with multiple partitions.
---------------
anyways .. this was all improvised ,
so Im essentially back to where i was b4 things went wrong..:normal:

im not gonna change any settings untill my school is over for break..
