I have just ordered a (MEGA) upgrade of a computer...
I've been using a Compaq Presario "off the shelf" "barely browse the web" computer, and have upgraded to this:

CASE: NZXT Black Tempest 210 Mid-Tower Gaming Case
CPU: AMD FX-4100 3.60 GHz Quad-Core AM3+ CPU 4MB L2 Cache & Turbo Core Technology
GPU: VIDEO: AMD Radeon HD 6850 1GB GDDR5 16X PCIe Video Card
HDD: 1TB SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 32MB Cache 7200RPM HDD (Single Drive)
MEMORY: 8GB (4GBx2) DDR3/1333MHz Dual Channel Memory
MOTHERBOARD: [CrossFireX] GigaByte GA-970A-D3
PSU: 650 Watts - Corsair CMPSU-650TXV2 80 Plus

Needless to say, I'm not looking forward to buying a BRAND NEW monitor to go along with my new tower, so I've taken a look at VGA to DVI adapters (since my new video card will ONLY support DVI/HDMI, and my old monitor ONLY has a VGA slot).

I've found THIS ADAPTER, and am very, very cautious and worried that it won't work. I'm scared that when I get my new computer all set up, and plug in my Monitor's VGA cable to the adapter, then into the video card, that I will get the "Power Saver Mode" or the screen won't work.

SOOOO... Just in case, I'd like to know of a cheap (NOT LARGE... 18-21") DVI monitor that I could keep in mind in the event that anything should go wrong.

Here's my CURRENT monitor (that I hope will work with the adapter, and new video card):

Newegg.com - COMPAQ Q1859 Black 18.5" 5ms Widescreen LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 1000:1 Built-in Speakers

Here's the adapter that I hope allows me to use my VGA monitor on my new video card:
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE DVI to VGA adapter for Twin-View video cards Model DVI-2-VGA - Video Card Accessories

And... here's my new video card:
Newegg.com - HIS H685FN1GD Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity

I'm really hoping that some super techy replies to this, ensuring me that the adapter will work fine, and thus.. will save me like 150-200 dollars :ermm:

Bump, please.
Will need to order the adapter/monitor soon, but would like some feedback before doing so!

The new GPU will probably come with a DVI to VGA adapter.

Tyree is correct. You usually get two with a gpu these days and you may also get one or two with the motherboard.
