Just put together:

XFX NVIDIA nForce 790i Ultra
EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 2.66GHz
XCLIO GREATPOWER 650W ATX12V
G.SKILL 4GB (4 x 2GB) SDRAM DDR3 1600 = 8gig
SAMSUNG Spinpoint 1TB 7200 RPM SATA
Windows Vista x64 SP2
All stock no overclocking.

It randomly freezes up during gameplay, online medias, and general computing. In fact; this is the 2nd time i'm typing this................ Got all the updates i can find from the maker's sites. Heat(s) are at 41-45 degrees Celsius @ idle and 61c tops with a load (gameplay). I like to keep my system on all day and shut it down at nights, but i can't with this system because it will surely freeze. Maybe my voltages? Im not too knowledgeable on how to tweak them, but im sure there incorrect.

Voltages from PC Wizard:
Voltage CPU 1.26v
+3.3 Voltage 3.25v
+5v Voltage 0.17v <~?
+12v Voltage 9.03v <~?

Tried to balance out the numbers and had trouble starting up. so i put them back. i'm out of options i need some advice.

Re: New Build Randomly Freezing/Locking up WinVista64

The Intel CPU with the Nvidia Mobo is never a good thing but your PSU is your most obvious issue. I'm surprised it runs with 9.03V on the +12V line. That XClio is not a quality PSU and I would refrain from turning the PC on until get a good quality PSU.

Re: New Build Randomly Freezing/Locking up WinVista64

Swapped out the power supply with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139009 and nothing has changed. still randomly locks up.

Voltage CPU : 1.16 V
+3.3V Voltage : 3.25 V
+5V Voltage : 5.86 V <~ ok
+12V Voltage : 9.03 V <~ still

last time it froze, tried to start it back up and had a fault code 25 on mobo.

25: Shadow VBIOS - Shadow system/video Bios.

swapped out video cards and the fault went away, comp. started up. hmm maybe video card then....
put the orgional card back in and it didnt fail. comp started up with FF. Faulty mobo?

switch shadowing and caching off in the bios if you can also run memtest86 to test the ram.

Freezing and locking is either heat, power or ram related.

I'd also remove 2 sticks and see if the problems continue.
Ditto! Filling all the RAM slots on a Mobo can cause Voltage issues and 4GB of RAM is more than sufficient.

9.03 Volts is unacceptable. Where are you getting that reading?

Re: New Build Randomly Freezing/Locking up WinVista64

it would not be booting at 9v,pcwizard is good but it has a problem with the 12v reading

check what the bios lists for the 12v

watch you cpu temps while running with this

http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/

check the voltage range of your ram on the makers site and set it at the top of the range

some m/b bios default to low to cater for low quality ram that only runs at one voltage

Re: New Build Randomly Freezing/Locking up WinVista64

Glad to hear you solved the problem. The Bios is the most accurate way to check the Temps and Voltages and Core Temp is a good Temp monitoring app.
