I hope someone can help me with this, as it is my first time building a computer. My problem is: after assembling the rig and turning it on this is what I get:
exhaust fan, cpu fan, graphics card fan run.
PSU fan doesnt come on, no leds come on, no beeps, and no display, no post, dvd drive wont open.

specs:
BIOSTAR A770 A2+ AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor
Geforce 6800
Rosewill R5717 BK 120mm Fan ATX Mid Tower Computer Case+450W Power Supply withTool-Free kits

CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Western Digital WD5000KSRTL Caviar 500 GB SATA Hard Drive

CD DVD R/RW 16x that I pulled out of an older comp

So far I 've tried:
running with only one ram stick, cpu, graphics card with no luck,
without any ram and no luck, tried without dvd drive installed and no luck,
pulled and reseated cpu, ram, and all connections - still nothing.

I have no clue what to do next, please help!

Re: new build, fans only, please help!

Check the voltage switch on the back of the PSU is set to the correct voltage, if there is no switch or it is set to the correct voltage, and as you stated the PSU fan is not running you probably have a bad power supply.

What video card are you running this PSU is on the weak side for anything over a 7600 nvidia.

Thanks for the reply. The voltage switch on the back is set to 115, which I assume is right because all my other comps are that way. My video card is nvidia 6800.

I considered trying a psu from another unit I have, which is 400w. But it s a 20 pin, and the new mobo/psu is 24.

Nope, the psu fan doesnt spin. Odd thing is though is case fan works, cpu fan works, graphics card fan works. I guess the psu is supplying some power but, not enough to turn its own fan. I was gonna try shorting the green to black wires on the 24 pin plug to see if that would make the psu fan work, but it has no green wire, and I cant find a wiring diagram from rosewill website.

Re: new build, fans only, please help!

Well, I finally got this solved. I borrowed a psu from a friend, and it did not help. So I took everything apart and re-assembled everything outside the case on my kitchen table, and everything ran great. I'm not sure what the original problem was. But I have a hunch it was a little metal tab sticking out from the i/o plate and shorting out the motherboard. This was my first attempt at building a system, so I am pretty pleased its all up and running now.

My first upgrade is going to for sure be a new PSU, and next a new video card. I think the next time I build a system, Im going to assemble it out of the case first
