Alright so I need to reformat my computer and my DVD drive is crappy and wont read OS disks no matter what I do. So I borrowed my boyfriend's DVD drive and installed it correctly in the computer. Everything clicked into place like it was supposed to and I made sure I didn't knock anything loose. I tried to boot the computer and it wouldn't start right. Everything sounded fine, the fans and the hard drives were spinning but there was no signal on the monitor and the power button was flashing (it never does that ever). I tried switching the jumpers from cable select to master and slave and all that but no success. I disconnected the new DVD drive and it booted just fine, the post screen showed on the monitor. I connected the drive back to the computer and the same thing, no post, but everything was running and the light was blinking again. Now it wont boot anymore even if the drive is not connected. It still starts, but no post on the monitor. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Additional info: My motherboard only has one IDE slot, so my main hard drive and the DVD drive share the same IDE cable. (I don't know if this is important or not)
