My new computer is giving me alot of trouble and I need to know what to replace if anything because I am suspecting a hardware fault. Anyways, the latest problem is these BSOD's ive been getting randomly upon startup. And by the way, faulty RAM is 99% ruled out as these sticks are fresh from RMA, so I am thinking maybe the mobo as it is a refurb. Oh, and I have ran 8 passes on Memtest with no errors with new RAM. Minidump attached. Thanks.

Re: mrxsmb.exe BSOD?

Hi,

As OS drivers are blamed these BSODs do appear to be hardware caused.

The only possible (but unlikely) software cause is this driver:
Code:
[font=lucida console]
[B]DB3G.sys[/B] Mon Nov 07 19:33:11 [COLOR=Red]2005[/COLOR] (436EF527)
[/font]
DB3G.sys - Diamondback Mouse Driver, update from here: http://www.razersupport.com/index.php?_m=downloads&_a=viewdownload&downloaditemid=74

Please follow dai's instructions above so we can troubleshoot the hardware side.

Regards,
Reventon

Re: mrxsmb.exe BSOD?

eVGA nForce 750i SLI motherboard
Intel C2Q Q8300 (Not OC'd)
4GB OCZ SLI-Ready RAM
eVGA GeForce 9800GT 512MB
BFG GS-450 450W PSU
And my HDD has passed all tests in SeaTools, so I guess we could rule that out?

From BIOS (upon cold boot):
CPU: 38 C
Board: 26 C

CPU VID: 1.20V
CPU FSB: 1.10V
Memory: 2.11V
+3.3V: 3.26V
+3.3V Dual: 3.26V
+12V: 12.03V
+5V: 4.96V
+VBat: 3.04V

And as for that DB3G driver, they have a Windows 7 driver which I already have installed, and I am sure that it is the latest one...

Re: mrxsmb.exe BSOD?

What is the timestamp on the driver DB3G.sys?

c:\windows\system32\drivers

RIGHT-click on db3g.sys, "Properties", "details"

Re: mrxsmb.exe BSOD?

Really? 550 Watts? I asked on another forum and I was told 450 Watts would be more than enough. Would not enough power cause these issues i'm having?

Re: mrxsmb.exe BSOD?

That 2005 driver will cause BSODs. It must be updated or the device removed.

PSU definite candidate as well.

How can I update it if there is only that version for Win7 available? And by the way, I ran this driver with this device on my last computer on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit, and I had no problems whatsoever. Does this mean a PSU problem definitely?

Sorry for the double post, forum wont let me edit my post again. Anyways I'm not much of a gamer but today I decided to play HL2 Lost Coast which my system could blaze through easily I believe. I had it on decent settings: 2xAA, high detail textures etc. And within 15 minutes, the system hung and was unresponsive so I rebooted via the case button and got this in Event Viewer:

Log Name: System
Source: Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power
Date: 23/07/2010 9:50:52 PM
Event ID: 41
Task Category: (63)
Level: Critical
Keywords: (2)
User: SYSTEM
Computer: Sandhu-PC
Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I am for sure leaning to a power supply needed?

The driver needs to be updated. If none available, the device should be replaced. The driver developers that wrote the driver in 2005 did not have Windows 7 x64 in mind.

That is a BSOD or user-forced shutdown. PSU definite candidate along with an unstable driver.

Re: mrxsmb.exe BSOD?

Alright ill pick up that corsair model soon, but one last question. I ran some more not-graphically-intensive games that I have ran before with no problems, but now within 20 mins, the screen freezes and I have to manually restart the computer. Power Supply issue again or something else?

Hard to tell, this could be anything from your PSU to your out of date mouse drivers or even another problem we have not found yet.

Re: mrxsmb.exe BSOD?

So with using a Corsair VX550W and a new mouse (after uninstalling the previous drivers), as suggested, I am still getting lockups during gaming. I have only been using them both for a day now so I haven't been able to replicate a BSOD, mostly because I dont know how to seeing as they were random upon cold boot. And by the way, when the system locks up, it is completely unresponsive and the last sound on the audio is continuously looped. I am maybe suspecting my GPU overheating because when I was monitoring my temps, my GPU came up to 70-72'C within 10 mins of a non-intensive game. And the fan is spinning on the gpu. Now what? Really hope I didn't just waste $180.

Ok, now we have to look at other hardware possibilities. You say you have already replaced your RAM?

As you are getting the lock-ups when gaming you should run a graphics stress test to see if your Graphics Card is the cause.
FurMark Setup:
Download from here: http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/
- If you have more than one GPU, select Multi-GPU during setup
- In the Run mode box, select "Stability Test" and "Log GPU Temperature"
Click "Go" to start the test
- Run the test until the GPU temperature maxes out - or until you start having problems (whichever comes first).
- Click "Quit" to exit

Re: mrxsmb.exe BSOD?

I just got off the phone with eVGA and the guy said it could be a problem with the graphics drivers because we can rule out RAM and the PSU. So he told me to use Driver Sweeper to clear out any remaining nVidia drivers after using their uninstaller, and then installing the drivers again. So I did, and I have run the game for a half hour, and no lock up. I dont want to get my hopes up just yet so tomorrow I will game some more and if it locks up, I will do what you suggested. Thanks for your help.

EDIT: I decided to run FurMark before I go to sleep, and it maxed out at 82/83'C. I dont know if that is bad...but no lock-up or any other problems so far.
