Please help me! I have a Gateway MX3215 laptop computer with Intel Celeron M processor at 1.40GHz and 960 MB RAM. It is running Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2. I was having problems with it so I decided to do a System Recovery. As far as I know it was successful. I had to go through the whole process of renaming the computer, setting it up and registering it (which I skipped). Now I cannot find my COM ports to attach my weather station. It does not list them in the Device Manager, where they were before. When I attach my Davis Vantage Pro weather station, the weather software says that the station cannot be found. It used to connect through port 3 or 4. Can anyone please help me? I really need to have access to my weather station and I have no idea what to do. I know very little about computers and even less about Windows and PCs.

I have tried going to the Gateway and Intel websites and looking for any updates. I can't even find my computer model listed.

Thank you from a very desperate person.

I will be glad to share my solution, though it will show my ignorance of computers.

I use WeatherLink and Weather Display with my Davis Vantage Pro2 weather station. To use a third-party program (Weather Display), WeatherLink has to be set up with COM ports. I thought a COM port was a physical part of a computer, like a USB port, only internal. However, the COM ports are virtual and are created when you download and run a USB to UART serial driver from Davisnet.com.

I have not been able to figure out how to mark this thread 'solved'. Do you know how to do that?

Thanks for your help.
