[SOLVED] Lost sound But can still control volume

1391 Views 10 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  spunk.funk
I was working on trying to get my bluetooth keyboard to work so I installed updates to make sure that wasn't the problem and now I restarted my computer I have no sound. I tried doing a rollback on my sound driver but that just got rid of the ability to control volume and it said no device so i downloaded and installed the device driver and no I can control volume but still no sound is coming out. Any ideas? I went to add or remove programs and it said the most recent updates I did were on the 14th so I don't think that'll help uninstalling since I just got the problem about an hour ago.

Re: Lost sound But can still control volume

What brand is your PC & where did you download the sound driver from?
Re: Lost sound But can still control volume

Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager, do you see any devices with yellow marks? If so, these devices need to have drivers installed. If none, confirm the sound card device. Then go to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio devices/Audio make sure the default playback device is the same sound device as the one in the Device Manager, if not take the drop down arrow and make it so.

HP Slimline s7210n. And it's the same one I used to get it to work after I messed it up by trying to upgrade to windows 7.
There are no yellow marks, and my sound card is Realtek High Definition Audio which is also selected under audio.

Download the original driver again
Re: Lost sound But can still control volume

Tried and i get the error message - "Your system does not have Microsoft's Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio Bus driver installed. ..."
Re: Lost sound But can still control volume

I'm not sure if I'm stupid or something but was I supposed to download the hotfix? I didn't see a download for the actual driver. The hotfix and Microsoft fix it Center didn't work. Get an error 0x80040154 from Microsoft fix it. Could you just give a direct link with a big download button so stupid me can find it. :)
Re: Lost sound But can still control volume

Here is the download link. Right click My Computer/Properties. in the System Properties Window, what Service Pack (SP) for XP do you have? You should have SP3 by now as This would have been included in the SP.
Somewhere while downloading all of these drivers I restarted and it worked. I'm thinking it was the most recent one you gave me that got it to work but not positive. Thanks for all the input.
