Is it possible for malware to get into a computer if you forget to turn the DSL modem off while you're checking out the computer's BIOS? This would be for a computer with no hardware firewall.

Usually not the modem should have some type of firewall or port blocking. And since your not in windows there is noway to run a executable.

My modem does not have a firewall or port blocking, according to the manufacturer specifications. I did full system scans with NIS 2010 and Ad-Aware afterward and they turned up clean. I'm usually good about turning the modem off while Windows is not running. Any cause for concern here, such as a rootkit or something being planted?
