Hi,

I have a laptop hard drive that i need to connect to a desktop.

But the pins on it are a bit different than normal. To the left is what looks like an IDE socket but for some reason an IDE cable won't connect to it and to the right is 4 pins set out like two on the top and two on the bottom.

What kind of connctors are these?

How do i connect it to my desktop?

It could be some type of interface block that sits over the pins. A picture would certainly help if you could post one. I would suggest getting an external USB enclosure for 2.5" drives.

I'm assuming it's PATA and not SATA by your description. Here's a typical enclosure for a laptop drive:

Just did a search on PATA hard drives and you are right it is PATA.

Would this USB enclosure work??

Yes, any 2.5" to USB enclosure should work just fine. Some have external power supplies, some use multiple USB connections to power the drive.
