[SOLVED] Laptop crashing before login screen

Hi everyone! This is the first time im on this forum. I am hoping someone might have a solution to my problem.

I have an Acer Aspireone windows xp. It was fine yesterday but when I tried to start it up about 20 minutes ago, it crashed after i logged in. Crash as in it turned itself off as if i was holding the power button down. Anyway, i turned it back on and this time it crashes right after the windows logo. I tried Last known good configuration and safe mode but it doesnt work. In safe mode it crashes a few seconds after \drivers\agpCPQ.sys. Being desperate i tried using my laptops built in recover system but before it finishes loading it crashes again.... Again when i say crashin i mean t turns itself off as if someone was holdong down the power button.

I hope you guys can help me!

It is a good computer and i havent been downloading anything or going to suspicious websites of ANY kind :/

Hi and welcome to TSF are the fan and ir vents clean and clear of debris a dust with a can of compressed air will make sure,have you installed any updates or drivers recently

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, everything is clean and as for the updates I am not sure. I set the updates to automatic and usually I am unaware it is updating. I am definitely sure I did not update any drivers.

Unfortunately no. It doesn't have a cd drive nor do I have an external cd drive. :/

Ok can you remove all power including the battery then hold down the power button for 30 sec,also remove and reseat the ram it will be in a small compartment on the underside,first though do you have a waranty if yes then I would use that and have it fixed that way

I do not have warranty :/ this computer is about 4 years old and I have never had a problem with it. I use it at school for notes and stuff. Could it be a virus problem? I would hardly think so considering that the only places i go to on it is facebook, email, and youtube...

Hi nothing is impossible but if you have protection it makes ot at least harder to get infected,do you have someone you could beg or borrow a disc from then you could try this to attempt to repair or reinstall SolutionBase: Boot Windows XP from a USB flash drive | TechRepublic

I do but does any windows xp cd work? Or do I need a specific one?

It needs to be the same version as is installed on your machine

Hey thanks for all your help! Its starting normally again... I decided to look over what you suggested again and tried once more to blow into the vent on the side of the computer (I am still at school so I had no access to any compressed air). When i started it up it worked! Thanks so much and sorry for all of the trouble! You are awesome! :]

Hi no problem glad you have it sorted and your welcome just watchout for dust and debris and blow it out every month or two
