We´ve got an app server on Windows 7 and 8 clients on xp and 7.

All was fine for months. Yesterday none of the clients could access the server. I could VNC remotely to see that the server was running.

On site I observed that the server can ping and VNC all the clients but while the clients can VNC to the server they cannot ping it, nor can they connect to it. I checked the router/firewall settings and nothing appears to have changed in the last 24 hours.

I deactivated McAfee in case that was doing something but no change.

More info gladly given, all suggestions gratefully received

Re: LAN server stopped receiving connections

I would be reviewing application, security and system logs.
You would look for yellow and red items. Or for services that have stopped or haven't started.

Concerning the network can you access a site on the internet from the server? If yes its not a ISP problem.

Re: LAN server stopped receiving connections

not an ISP problem. the app server and all clients are able to access the internet, the app server can access any of the clients, the clients can access each other but none can access the app server. All ip addresses are 192.168.xxx.xxx so it is an internal problem. A firewall setting (that I can´t find) would explain the behavior but no one has access to change those settings and they dot change themselves. There´s a d-Link DI-524 router and I´ve checked all the permissions on it and they are the same.

Gonna remove all McAfee, deactivate Windows firewall etc and see if that helps.
