I have a 2wire router which I have had connected to my desktop PC via ethernet, and it is wireless to my laptops. I just had to reinstall Vista in an attempt to cure a bunch of problems (at the recommendation of a friend), and in trying to put everything back together, I can't access the internet. The ethernet light on the router is lit up, but the computer doesn't seem to recognize that there is a router there. Help! (btw, laptops are connecting fine to the router, so its obviously a computer problem rather than a router problem...).

Re: just reinstalled Vista, now it doesn't recognize router

Yes that would. Click start and type in run and hit enter. In the run menu type in "devmgmt.msc" without the quotes. click the + sign next to network adapters. Then hold Alt and hit print screen so it takes a screen shot of the device manager and paste the picture in Paint and save it as a jpeg. Upload the picture as an attachment in a post.

You have not loaded the Chipset driver therfore the Network adaptor driver will not load.

Once you load that it should work. You can find the Chipset driver on the manufacturers support site

You can go to the Dell support site, enter your Service Tag Number and download the drivers. Be sure to use IE and do not use the Dell Download Manager!

Just download the driver file, save it to the desktop and double click to install

On the list of drivers, click on the driver file:

Then the download button here:

See this for the order they should be installed:

The error for SM Bus controller indicates that the Chipset driver was not installed . . it has to be installe first. The error for the Realtec Network adaptor probably failed because the chipset was not in . . same for the printer

YAY it works now!!! Thank you so much. For some reason the drivers CD didn't work, but the download from Dell worked perfectly. We're up and running again. I really appreciate the advice.
