[SOLVED] Installing Windows Genuine Advantage

1001 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  texasowl
Hi all,
This is my first post and I really need some help.
I just installed a new mother board and upgraded the memory to 4 GB DDR2..
I am running Win XP Pro with SP3 (just installed).
I used hd from the old system with the OS and just installed the Mobo installation CD to this OS. The Mobo is an Elitegroup A780GM-A with an AMD Athlon 64 x2 processor.
As the title says, I can not install the windows genuine advantage. The error code saids that it is downloaded, but says it will not install and does not give any error codes.
Can I get a few suggestions on what to do. This is really driving me up a tree.
Thanks for the help.:upset:

Re: Installing Windows Genuine Advantage

Sobeit,
Thank you for the fast response. The win xp pro is a legit software as I have installed it on several other systems I have built. None of the systems I have had where from any manufacture as I put them together myself.
I did run the XP CD to do a repair on the system and was asked for the product key. It accepted with no problem, when I went to activate, the statement came up and said I had used it to many times. I did a phone activation and all went fine from there.
I have never had this type of problem before.

Hi all,
I found the solution to my problem, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144. I need to thank PABear on the MSWindows XP user group.
My system now works like a champ.
