Hi

I've installed a HD 4870 in my brothers PC and when I boot up nothing appears on screen, it just says 'Monitor going to sleep'.

I've tried two different PSUs, two different sets of RAM, I reset CMOS and made sure the mobo wasn't screwed on too tight. Nothing seems to work.

Strange things that happen though are, the Disk Drive won't open, as if it is getting no power, that might be because its an old crappy IDE drive, and the CPU fan doesn't start spinning until I tap it with my finger to get it moving.

Any ideas? :banghead:

It would appear you have more than one problem.

ATI HD 4870
AMD Phenom x4 955 with 3rd party heatsink
PSU is Corsair 650TX modular.

Re: Installed new Gfx card, nothing appears on screen

Is the GPU new?
What GPU wqs being used before and will it still work?
Test it in another PC or try a different GPU in his PC.
The CPU fan requiring a tap to get it started would indicate a failing fan. Try connecting the CPU fan to a System fan Mobo header to see if the fan or the Mobo haeder is at fault.

Re: Installed new Gfx card, nothing appears on screen

The GPU is second hand from a friend. I'll try testing it in my PC, I'll try the CPU fan on a different connector on the mobo, thanks.

Re: Installed new Gfx card, nothing appears on screen

Hi, I tried a completely different motherboard and all the components worked, I guess it was a bad used motherboard.

Thanks for your help.
