I have an Acer Aspire 7745. When I connect to wifi it connects fine from a fresh start. However after a while I will loose connection and it will not reconnect unless I restart the pc. I have tried running the troubleshooter and it will just freeze the pc after a lost connection. The only way to get wifi back is to restart. I have downloaded the updated driver but it still happens. Do you have any suggestions? I have another laptop that access the internet fine and never looses connection. Oh also there is no given time frame I can be on for 5 minutes and it will drop, or 5hrs.

Thank you for your help
Signa

ran an cmd ip confige app too because sometimes I get a message saying conflicting ip address. Also when I run the troubleshooter it sometimes will go thru and tell me that it can not connect to a hidden network. I dont think I have my network hidden.

Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

To get a look at the network, Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

try ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew
Broadcom WIFI card with Acer laptop wont hold internet connection PLEASE help

I did some more research on this wifi card, seems like acer is not the only pc that has problems with it dropping the internet. I wonder if it might be a Win7 and the new driver for the wifi card, however it was doing the same thing with the old driver. I did a ipconfig/all here are the results.

I changed a couple of settings also
On the Atheros ethernet controller
Turned off the wake up capabilities in advanced settings
Unchecked allow computer to turn off the device to save power in power management

Broadcom 802.11n changes to settings
Afterburner enabled
Bluetooth collaboration disabled (I dont have anything bluetooth)
Minimum Power Consumption disabled
Roam Tendency Conservative (I really dont want it to roam I only use it at home on my network is there a setting to shut this off and can I)
Wake up mode none
WMM disabled (but Im wondering if I should turn it back on I like to hook my laptop to my flat screen thru hdmi will this setting affect it?)
Xpress (TM) Technology enabled (is this good)
IBSS Mode is set at 802.11b only... Im wondering if I should change this setting to 54g performance or something

Power Management
both options unchecked

Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter
Power Management options unchecked

Well I was going to say all was going well but just before I could hit submit on this post I lost connection and laptop locked up during troubleshooting. Had to do a hard reboot. I was so scared that I was going to have to type this all over, but google chrome opened up my last pages and it was all still here thank goodness.

So now what do you tech people think I should try? Someone had mentioned that it could possibly be interference from cb radios (hmmm Sheriff's office is right down the street)

Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

What aused the pc lockup? . . you can look in Event Viewer to see if it shows and error at the time it locked up.

Is starmoor your router? It looks to be putting out a strong signal.

What is 'Afterburner" . . try turning that off.

There could be interference . . try setting the channel to the higest channel instead of channel 1
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

rawr meow!

Rich,

Like I have said when I loose wifi the pc tries to reconnect and can not so it runs the trouble shooter everytime it will lock up the pc.

Yes starmoore is my router

I do not know what afterburner is (can we find out what this is before i turn it off

I dont believe it is the channel my other laptop runs with no problems what so ever.

I have been pokin around on the web on microsofts website. After looking at my event view (which I am not that famiiar with) I have had a tons of error like this

+ System

- Provider

[ Name] Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-EventTracing
[ Guid] {B675EC37-BDB6-4648-BC92-F3FDC74D3CA2}

- Security

[ UserID] S-1-5-18

- EventData

SessionName Circular Kernel Context Logger

Im attaching an image of the event viewer... Looks like it is something to do with the wifi, router, and windows.... hmmm...

I have also noticed there are a lot of people in the forum that have had the same issue with no resolve...

Hopin we can brainstrom together to get it fixed.

Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

I have been doing some research and poking around this dang web hoping that I can hold my wifi connection...

not sure if im suppose to post a link from another web site but i think it might b of some help...

after looking in my event viewer i have over 1500 kernal errors.....

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...d-9c4071ecdb63

I also found this as a response too....

Regarding the Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-EventTracing error, could you please go to %windir%\pather, rename setup.etl to setup.old?

I changed the file like they said and my pc actually booted up faster this time, never really noticed it was booting slow...

Looks like windows7 has problems with wifi n routers..... grrr

Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

Afterburner seems to be some sort of speed up for DDWRT systems . . have you installed DDWRT on the router . . you can always turn it back on . . just leave it off long enough to test.

Changeing channels is the easiest way to eliminate interference as the problem.

My router is wireless N and three Windows 7 systems have no issues with it.
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

Yeah ok I will try that, but I have internet that is is not dsl, it comes to me from a repeater, so maybe this is something that was set up when the company set my system up. going to shut it off for a second and we shall see
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

What does "it comes to me from a repeater" mean?
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

well it is like satalite, but not, there is an atenna a few miles away and that is where my single comes from to a dish that I have on my house and then into my router.... Ptera Wireless | We make it work
I shut that off and I going to reboot now.
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

ok afterburner is off and I still have wifi connection.

what do you think about all those event viewer error logs?
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

The ones in the image are almost a month old . . are there any more recent ones?
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

they are all pretty much that same thing, i just took a shot of those because of the warning.
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

Are you using Windows Zedro Configuration to manage the wireless connection or some third party app?
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

not sure if i understand your question. what is windows zedro? I use what ever is on my pc, i have not downloaded or installed any extra programs
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

The errors that happened when it shuts down is what we need to see
Re: Im singing the WIFI blues WIFI

here is an event that occured just a few minutes ago Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x5CAC4C09A678. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.
