[SOLVED] I Can't turn off the inboard video card!!!

First, thanks for taking the time to read my post and hopefully you'll have the answer... because right now nobody else seems to know.

I bought a new video card to upgrade my computer so I can edit short videos I shoot with my camcorder.

I tried to turn off the onboard video card but no matter what I uninstall or disable my computer won't go to my new video card. My computer screen is plugged into my new card but the screen is blank and the only thing I get on my monitor is "no signal".

So here's the info on the system I'm working with.

Motherboard: MS-6777

Here's the link from the Emachine site:

I did upgrade the RAMs a while back to 1.37 GB (I don't know if it means anything)

And here's the new graphic card I'm trying to install:

Thank you so much for your time,
Louis

Re: I Can't turn off the inboard video card!!!

Check in the BIOS and disable the onboard video.

I tried but no matter what I "disable" it doesn't work.
Re: I Can't turn off the inboard video card!!!

Is the fan running on the card?

What wattage is the PSU?

Get the onboard working (with the other card out) and then go to the device manager. When in there, disble the onboard video card. Shut down, then put in the new video card, then enter the bios and set the video card so that the onboard is not selected as the first device. Then, reboot and enter the drivers for the new card and everything should be wonderful.

The fan is turning and everything seems to be running as it should.

280W

No luck, I just tried what you said and I still got the blank screen with the "no signal" warning.

When I rebooted with the new card in, I couldn't go to the BIOS.

For that video card, you need to have at least a 550 watt quality power supply, the PSU you have will not work with that card.

FYI, the emachine company uses junk power supplies that are terribly underpowered so they can only push the onboard that you have because it doesn't take much power.
Re: I Can't turn off the inboard video card!!!

I check the power with a voltmeter and there's was enough juice but just in case I bought a 500 watts PSU (on the box for the video card it said 400 watts minimum) and it's still doesn't work and the voltage on the power cord is the same. I guess the motherboard doesn't like that card at all!

What if I upgrade to a new motherboard? I already spent the money for the card, might as well keep going!

Any suggestion?
Re: I Can't turn off the inboard video card!!!

Are you hooking up the 4 pin Molex power connector to the card?
Re: I Can't turn off the inboard video card!!!

hi. i figure what you need to make sure of more than anything is make sure that the card is fully inserted into the machine...if the gpu is not inserted correctly it would behave the way you say it is. if you put in the gpu and you still get a no signal but when you put the cable in the onboard port and you get display then you need to reseat your gpu...if not, your card is not getting the required juice...you need a bigger capacitated psu...80+ certified 900w psu would be perfect. otherwise try another gpu just to make sure that your gpu slot is not the culprit or test that one in another rig to test that your new gpu is not defective.
Re: I Can't turn off the inboard video card!!!

i also agree with the moderators...the onboard graphics are easily disabled in the device manager under my computer properties...and yes, a better psu should have the 6pin molex power connector for your gpu...use it and see if that helps then post back.
Re: I Can't turn off the inboard video card!!!

The card use a 4 pin connector not a 6 pin.
Re: I Can't turn off the inboard video card!!!

Thanks for all the replies, but I gave up... my computer was way outdated and I was just digging myself deeper into trouble by trying to find a quick fix. So I build a new computer from the ground up with all the new components I wanted and now everything is working great!!!

Sure I'll have to eat some ramen noodles for the next few weeks but at least I'll be entertained with great HD videos.

Thanks,
Louis
