[SOLVED] How would I allow only certain programs to be run?

3768 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  waltthesalt
Hi,

I recently bought a new computer, XP Pro, and I enabled the guest account on it. I have my account which is an admin, and the guest account. I was wondering if there was any way to allow only certain programs to be run on the guest account. For example, the guest can't run any apps other than Internet Explorer, Media Player, or paint. Is there any way to do this other than uninstalling the other programs from this account?

Thanks!
Walt

Hi Walt and welcome to TSF:wave:

A very unusual request. Try this and see if it will work for you.
Boot into the guest account.
In Control Panel click on Folders.
Under File Types, change the association of all the desired programs. I don't know which setting would give you what you want, but you might select Word Pad or something that you like.

It might work for you and only be active under that account.

Best Regards:smile:
