Do you wish to add desktop gadgets like weather reports and a clock or change the background?

I cannot see any option called "personalize" in my windows 7 home edition.......
@thegift
no, I want to put desktop icons like my computer, my network places, etc.

That I know I can do it manually going to each program and create shortcut but I'm looking for the option similar to xp. I can just select icons in customize desktop window in xp.

Click Start and then right click on My Computer and select 'show on desktop'. Or as Old Rich said, Right Click on desktop and select 'Personalise' and then select 'Change Desktop Items' which will be on the left.

Sorry, just noticed that Windows 7 Starter does not have the 'Personalise' option when right-clicking on the desktop. Instead go Start and type 'Icon' into the search box at the bottom, then select 'show or hide common icons on the desktop'. Select the ones you want and hit 'OK'.
