[SOLVED] Hi Def Audio Driver isn't working since I "UPGRADED" Vista to XP Pro SP2

Hi,

I recently upgraded Windows Vista Ultimate to Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 in order to get a lot of things working, and after a fatal Windows Virus... a lot of the programs I need to use aren't compatible with Vista yet, so I had no choice but to reformat. So anyway, I formatted the hard drive. Then I went ahead and did a clean install of Windows XP Professional edition. Everything is working fine and all my drivers are backed up except for my High Definition Audio Controller.

I have read another thread, with the same problem, but for another type of machine, and a person found a possible (but non working solution), please read so you are on the same level here....

After almost becoming desperate looking for a solution, and by try-and-error, my brother Héctor has managed to solve the question:

1- Download hdaudbus.sys version 5.10 (easy to find via emule), be sure is from Microsoft Corp, size 135 KB.

2- Copy/paste and remove newer version 6.0 from C:\\Windows\system32\DRIVERS

3- Install Realtek drivers for XP, and, if asked, maintain older version.

4- Done! You will probably asked to reboot, after hearing a typical xp sound.

Good luck

I did the process, and followed each step this person took. This did stop the orange exclamation [!] next to the Aud Driver finding itself, and I did the reboot, and started the PC again, and the computer installed "Legacy Audio Codecs" and other drivers, and say they are working properly, but I have no sound working, and when I run a program such as Sound Recorder, or Volume Control, I am presented with an error saying I have no Audio Mixer installed. So, the problem hasn't really solved.

Please tell me if I need anymore information. And, please help me solve this problem!! I will do my best to provide all of the information you need.

p.s

My system specs are:

Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop
Genuine Intel CPU T2250 @ 1.73 GHz
1.73 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM
XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
111GB HDD (WDC WD1200BEVS-75LATO)
ATi Mobility Radeon X1300 Graphics card (I think its 256MB RAM)

First off Vista to XP is not an upgrade but a downgrade but that's just a technicality. To correct your problem you should go to the Microsoft Update website and get all the updates. Including optional hardware and optional software except desktop search 4. Sound issues are usually solved by getting all updates because many system files get changed including the bad . Getting SP3 is also recommended.

Re: Hi Def Audio Driver isn't working since I "UPGRADED" Vista to XP Pro SP2

Hi Xan,
I am not sure what is causing your issue, but Dell list XP drivers for your laptop:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...SPIRONI6400/E1505&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
When you downgraded did you install the CHIPSET driver FIRST?
Did you install the UAA Driver (from microsoft) before installing the Audio driver:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SO...AA-Bus-Driver-for-High-Definition-Audio.shtml

Go to the device manager and post any errors (yellow !) you find .

First off Vista to XP is not an upgrade but a downgrade.
I'm aware of that, that was just a joke that XP is better than Vista.

I'll be sure to post the info when I've finished work, and am back home. Got 4 hours left.

Thanks so far for the help.

Re: Hi Def Audio Driver isn't working since I "UPGRADED" Vista to XP Pro SP2

Did you install the UAA Driver (from microsoft) before installing the Audio driver:
No, I don't recall downloading that file. I let Windows find the ?recommended? driver from Microsoft before installing any other drivers, because the backup drivers I saved from Vista do not want to work.

The main issue here is that I will not be able to tell you what the actual audio hardware is inside my computer. I called Dell to ask for a reset on the log-in screen for me to access the information on my complete hardware manufacturer details, but the recruited straight off the street Dell Monkey's refused to help me because I am out of 'physical service warranty'... (Ed: What? I'm asking for a fix on my web login through my service tag, not asking for replacement parts..) and he dumped me on a "24-7 help line" which I waited for 2 hours for an answer but just hung up because I knew it was going nowhere.

How am I out of warranty anyway? Look below.

Errors I have recieved after letting Windows install what it can find:

In relation to removing hdaudbus.sys (Post 5.10) with the 5.10 version - "Driver may be corrupted or missing (Code 39)"

I wrote this down when I recieved it.. after letting Microsoft find it's own drivers, and letting it automatically guess the device - "IDT Hi Def Audio Codec - Device cannot start (Code 10)"

Below: Sound and Audio Device Properties screenshot, and in background, Dell XP Recommended Drivers (Which dont work for my system at all - I've tried all of them).

Also, if you are able to tell me out of all of the below information, which might be my audio hardware.. (I know what a lot of them are already), but I just put them all below for you to see and analyse.

Re: Hi Def Audio Driver isn't working since I "UPGRADED" Vista to XP Pro SP2

Hi Xan,
Go to the Device Manager and Right click on the HD Audio error>Properties>Details Tab
Under Device Instance ID give me the DEV/VEN number you have.
Bill
Hi Bill, I have uninstalled the existing driver from the screenshot above as it was of no use. And have used the option in Device Manager "Scan for New Hardware Changes" and it located the "Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus" and I have a 'This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1) To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.' at this stage without doing anything since uninstalling the driver that was installed.

The entire code in Device Instance ID (Noting info above) is: "HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_102801BD&REV_1022\4&2973568E&0&0001".

Thanks.

Re: Hi Def Audio Driver isn't working since I "UPGRADED" Vista to XP Pro SP2

You have the Sigmatel Audio Card:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=3&fileid=235761

The driver includes the UAA driver needed

Uninstall all audio drivers.
Download and reinstall the Sigmatel driver.

If it does not work try to install it in SAFE Mode.
If that fails, extract the file to a folder and force install the driver through the device manager directing it to the folder you made.

Let me know how you make out.

Hi again Bill,

Does "uninstall all audio drivers" include Legacy Audio Drivers, and Media Control Devices and it's associated .dll files?

No,
Just the audio drivers you installed, but I do not know the effects of what you did here:

Bill
That was from another thread, when I searched on the forum keywords with my problem.

I followed steps 1 & 2 -

1- Download hdaudbus.sys version 5.10 (easy to find via emule), be sure is from Microsoft Corp, size 135 KB.

2- Copy/paste and remove newer version 6.0 from C:\\Windows\system32\DRIVERS

...and this made XP realise that there my HD Aud actually exists. I have the Realtek software downloaded, but have not started it. I have kept the hdaudbus.sys 6.0 in another folder just in case.

So, I've backed myself up on my move in case something went wrong.

I can reverse this, and keep the 6.0 if you insist, however I'll just lose being able to tell my system that I actually have a HD Aud device though.

Edit (12:27AM): I am following your steps right now as I type this, I am downloading the file from dell.

I have nothing to uninstall at this point, so I'll keep you updated on what happens with it.

Re: Hi Def Audio Driver isn't working since I "UPGRADED" Vista to XP Pro SP2

Here is what happened -

I installed the drivers from Dell's site, and miraculously I heard the generic "Windows shutdown" soundfile play from the speakers.

With happiness, the computer started up again and I went to test if it was working or not, and just to make sure I wasn't hearing things (lol), and it still doesn't recognise the device. Here is some screenshottage for you. Also to note, the Device Instance ID has changed. Screenshot first though.

Dev Inst ID

"PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27D8&SUBSYS_01BD1028&REV_01\3&61AAA01&0&D8"

Re: Hi Def Audio Driver isn't working since I "UPGRADED" Vista to XP Pro SP2

That is your UAA Driver
Extract the Sigmatel driver to a folder.
Open the folder
You will see a HDAQFE Folder. Open it.
Select the win2k_xp folder and open it
Open us Folder
You will see a file kb835221 exe.
Run this exe. file

If that fails force install the driver through the device manager and direct it to the kb835221 exe. file

Let me know.
