I have an asus p4c800 board. Been having big problems lately. When i startup, i get a scrambled screen. Sometimes i get no video at all. If i keep on trying over and over again, eventually i will get into windows. Then, eventually it will freeze or weird lines will start to appear on the screen, then I will freeze. I tried 2 agp cards, 2 pci cards, same results with each of them. I have 2gb of memory (4X512)...i removed 1 pair of 512's, same result. i removed the other pair of 512's, same result. i also ran memtest 86, no errors with any memory..i tried a new mother board, same exact results..i put new ide cables in, same results...the only thing i have not changed yet is my power supply and my cpu..my power supply is a thermaltake 450w..2 years old...it seems to be running just fine though, more than enough power..i am not even using half of the power leads...can anyone suggest something for me? please see the attatched picture to see what my screen looks like from time to time at start up. would the computer even work if it were the cpu? i am out of options at this point..right now i am running on a pci card, working for the moment.

Re: Help with asus p4c800

looks like bad ram on the video card or power supply problem
how many leads you use does not make much difference 90% of the power is pulled by the cpu and the video
can you borrow another psu to try in it with a min of 18a on the 12v+ rail
what does the bios list for your tempretures and voltages
Re: Help with asus p4c800

i have tried 4 different video cards, i doubt though all 4 have bad ram..i am starting to think it is my ram on my motherboard..i keep moving modules and reseating..sometimes it works, sometimes it does not..sometimes i get 2 fast beeps at startup, the asus manual says parity error...i bought 2gb new memory, wont have it til next week. i dont have another power supply either..i am leaning towards the ram more as if the system does not boot, i just move the modules to other dimms and then it does work, until reboot any way...the power supply is 450w..i only have 1 video card in there right now, and 2 usb pci hubs...if the new memory does the same thing, i guess it must be the power supply. but could it be the cpu? i thought with the cpu being bad, it would just not work at all...i also find it hard to believe that all 4 of my 512mb sticks are bad..i just ran memtest86 and all passed..could the memory still be bad but pass memtest86?????

Re: Help with asus p4c800

there can be a problem with memeory and still pass the tests but it is very rare
have you tried a new cable to the monitor
what are the voltage readings
Re: Help with asus p4c800

it was the power supply..i removed my old one, looked at the 20pin connector and 4 pins were black, burned badly..put a new power supply in and everything is fine, finnally! thanks!
Re: Help with asus p4c800
