Re: Help picking laptop!?!?!?!?!??!?!

are the first two the same machine ?
you will need a gaming expert to advise, most laptops do not make good gaming PCs

what sort of games are you planning to play

any reason for a laptop ?
rather than a desktop ?

whats your max budget and what country are you in

Re: Help picking laptop!?!?!?!?!??!?!

There is no difference between the first too.

Second like etaf said laptops are not great for gaming. You really should think about building your own PC.

Also what are the brands? That matters!

I like to recommend laptop brands, in order, such as: Asus, Samsung, Dell, Acer.

Re: Help picking laptop!?!?!?!?!??!?!

its alienware m17x laptop. i want the portability since im going to be moving around a lot. the three configurations are of the same laptop m17x r4
this laptop is going for 3400 so if you can show one with the same price tag and a lot better than go ahead post link of it would be appreciated.
i just would rather know if having the ssd but with the 3740 be better than having a 750 gb 7200 with the 3840 processor. and another question would 16gb ram be worth it or just the 12. im in usa

Re: Help picking laptop!?!?!?!?!??!?!

I'm not an expert on laptops, but I do know for a fact they don't provide as much "bang-for-your-buck" as desktops. Also, in regards to Alienware, I believe they are apart of DELL now. I don't know if this effects their reliability and support though. My advice would be to stick with the Chief's suggestions if possible.

Very few applications can utilise over 4GB of RAM let alone 16GB... so it wouldn't really be worth it (not for a laptop anyway.)

Re: Help picking laptop!?!?!?!?!??!?!

Look you guys are more worried about the price of the machine and that its a part of dell. Things i already know. No offence guys but yall havent answered the first question of the damn forum post.
It is expensive, cost more than performance to price ratio whatever or that desktop is better i just want a homest performance rating on the machine

I did answer your question...

The first two computer builds you posted are the same.

The first build is much better than the second.

If I was buying it, I would pick the first.

Re: Help picking laptop!?!?!?!?!??!?!

For all intents and purposes the three machines are nearly identical and will perform nearly identical with the exception of the last machine which will likely show quicker boot and program load times due to the SSD, but at the price of space.

Re: Help picking laptop!?!?!?!?!??!?!

To answer your first question, I would say they would all perform about the same with todays apps. However the third one has an ssd, so you will notice faster boot/loading times. The third one doesn't come with an optical drive though, so that can be a downer depending on your needs. I would say the third is probably the best of the three.

On another note, we only intended to provide you with the best advice given your proposed situation. We just wanted to steer you in the right direction.

EDIT: As above! ^^

Does the ssd sway you into getting it at all?

If it were my choice, I would go with a standard HDD in place of an SSD. I am not sure if that particular model comes with a mSATA port for use with mSATA SSD.

Judging by the size of the SSD, I would assume it is using the 2.5" SATA slot... But I could be wrong.

Could you provide a link to the Dell customization page?

Samsung is the only recommended SSD manufacture that I would recommend. Due to Samsung makes the entire SSD (software and hardware) all in house and does not use a 3rd party.

Chances are that the Dell is not a Samsung SSD.

Therefore I would also stick with a standard HDD, like shown in builds one and two.
