[SOLVED] Hard disk detection in BIOS and many other problems

Hi,

Till two days ago I was working normally when I decided to change my OS. I was on Vista x64 however due to driver problems decided to change to Vista x32. The installation failed, stalling on completing installation (on an IDE hd). T

hat's when i decided to use my SATA hd. I copied all files from the SATA hd to the IDE and started installing Vista on the SATA. This time the installation stalled after the first reboot. Apparently Vista was still editing the boot of the IDE. I disconnected the IDE yet the problem still remained. I decided to revert to XP SP2.

When I reconnected the IDE, the hard disk detection in the BIOS started getting stuck for about 20seconds. The CD of XP took ages to load and after it started installing it gave an error about booting.

I have an ASROCK AliveSata GLan2
CPU: Athlon 64 4200+ 2.20GHz x2
RAM: 4GB

I am clueless to what is causing the problem! Yet i suspect it's the MOBO thats y i posted it here

Re: Hard disk detection in BIOS and many other problems

the inicial load goes into ram and it hands over to the hard drive on the first reboot
when it stops there it is not finding the drive
set sata to be seen as ide in the bios
Re: Hard disk detection in BIOS and many other problems

Hi thanks for the replies. The SATA is set to be seen as IDE. It eventually (after 20 seconds) finds the drive. Today I restarted the computer. The first three times, it found the hardware immediately, then the problem started again.

What is happening is the the first IDE hd is found immediately (it stops there). Then it takes 20 seconds to detect 2 CD-ROMs and 1 SATA listed as third primary master. From then on everything works slow. It takes 10 minutes for the OS install cd to load.
