use the convert command to convert the filesystem to NTFS. FAT32 which is the default formatting of most external drives is limited to storing 4GB files. Open a command prompt and type convert /? to see the syntax for useage. You will not lose any data using the convert command. The caveat is once you convert to NTFS the only way to go back to FAT32 is to reformat, and MAC does not directly support NTFS
