[SOLVED] finding my slave drive

Hi! I have read all the threads about slave/master drives and still cannot figure out what to do...I am VERY novice at this.
I had a 5-6 yr old Dell Dimension 3000 that would not boot up when I turned it on yesterday...called tech support and eventually was told that the hard drive was not repairable???? but that I might be able to retrieve my stuff if I made it a slave drive. So...I went on line and found out how to do that (BIG first for me). Th Dell had a Maxtor hard drive. I have a Compaq Presario at home with a Samsung hard drive. The Maxtor hard drive on the front says that no jumpers=slave and it is connected to the middle gray connector on the cable. The Samsung hard drive is set to Master and is connected to the end black connector. At least now, the computer will boot up so I think that part is right but I can't access the slave. The device manager shows that is there and that it works. The master has Windows XP Home 2002 and the slave has Windows Pro 2003. How can I access programs on the slave drive?? Thank you so much!!!!!

Re: finding my slave drive

Thank you!!! The slave drive now shows up under "My Computer" but I still cannot see the files that are on the slave drive. The master drive is on my sister's computer and the slave drive is from my computer...could that be a problem??? Again thank you sooooo much!! I would have never gotten this far without you guys!!!

Can't see the files???

What does Windows say about free space on the drive?

Try some data recovery programs:

GetDataBack
Recuva
Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier

I'm sorry about the delay in responding. GetBackData recovered most of my files!! Yeah!!!! Thank you so much for all your help. Cathy
