Hi Experts,

I have Latitude D505, Windows XP service pack 3. I have some questions please can some one help me.

1. There is a strange application which is running when I shut down, It prompts me that I end the application says "sample". I see the tasks there is nothing and my eye fail to get any thing from the process (looking for process, consuming cpu, strange ones etc) ..
So I have anyways have to clean my start up which takes so much time so I looked at MSCONFIG and removed all applications except anti virus, touch pad from start up. I still see this weird application.
Does any one know what this is and how to get rid of it.

2. Once I changed the startup, My task bar color is changed from blue to whitish, greyish ??(A light color ugly, I am color blind to specifically tell the color). How to correct this .

3. As part of my clean up, I read quite a few pages and removed all those services, I thought not required. Now I have this problem .. I cannot get any external HDD mapped to drive or even webcam.
However the harddrives gets mapped if I restart the laptop with USB HDD connected.
Need help to resolve this issue

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks you in Advance.

Cheers
-P

Re: External Drive, cam detection; task bar going grey

It sounds like you disabled some services that are required for Windows. You should only disable the items in Windows Startup tab.
Go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press enter. In the Add Remove Programs see if there is anything related to this program and uninstall it.
Then I would enable everything back in msconfig. Download and do a Full scan with malwarebytes. If you feel you are infected, please click on the link in my signature Virus/Malware Help and do as many of those steps as you can and skip those you can't and post in that section of the forum for more help.

Re: XP SP3; IPC error, Shutdown Issues and Taskbar Color issues

Hi Experts,
I wanted to be update to get best performance and removed some services from running along with changes to MSconfig and ended up in mess.. Now Any help from you would be greatly appreciated.

Note: I have followed the attached the DD.TXT and ARk.txt and Attach Zipped as attachment for investigation.

1. When I tried to Open control Panel, I get the following error which I have to say Ok or nothing works
" IPC error: no connection. (SM_RC_ENOCONN)(11)" This dialog box appears twice before control panel displays the list. Please can some one help me resolve it.

Tried the following:
Restor to the date system was working .. But I still have these problems.

2. When I shut down, I am forced to end a strange application it says "End Program - Sample". The shut down procedure does not force this "Whatever weird thing" to close. I see from task manager that there are no Applications running.

3. Windows Task Bar changed color to grey even after restore, this problem remains

Observations
Themes services is running.
I have googled about it and run those regedit commands
regsvr32 mshtml.dll - failed saying "mshtml.dll loaded, but DLLRegisterServer entry point not found" . ..
Did I install any other OS drivers by mistake .. ? How to know ?

4. This is my own making, So while trying to resolve problem 3, I came across Troubleshooting Windows XP, Tweaks and Fixes for Windows XP from google and run all recommended stuff to get back my task bar, themes etc. So I have now a different problem ..

After startup, I get a winxp screen and a arrow nothing else for nearly 2 minutes before winxp gets back to live again..

Any help to resolve these annoying issues will be appreciated.

Re: External Drive, cam detection; task bar going grey

Changing Services unless you know what you are doing and knowing which ones Windows depends on to function properly is not a good idea. Msconfig Startup only enables or disables programs to startup when Windows starts up (Non Essential Microsoft items) which is safe.

Other Msconfig settings do not play with unless you are experienced in what they are and what they do.

Thank you JackBauer_24 and Spunk.funk.

Sorry, I posted here with a intention of continuing the link. So would you advice me to repost same thread in virs/malaware help or is it possible for anyone to move this post to relevant place.
