[SOLVED] DVD Drive - Code 39 error

2142 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  makinu1der2
The machine is a 6-month old Acer Veriton M221. My DVD drive has stopped being recognised by the OS. I'd rather avoid sending the machine to Acer so need to identify whether the drive has failed or whether it's just a driver issue.

I've done all the obvious uninstalling and reinstalling in Device Manager, but it makes no difference. Windows 7 won't see the drive, despite it being there and happily accepting discs, whirring, flashing its lights etc.

In Device Manager three .sys driver files are shown, but I've no idea which one if any is the cause of the problem! These are:

cdrom.sys
eLock2BurnerLockDriver.sys
UBHelper.sys

The message shown is "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)"

Does anyone have any ideas on where to go to get copies of these drivers?

Cheers.

Take a look at the article below. Try deleting the upper and lower filters.

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs
