[SOLVED] Do Or Die

2427 Views 48 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  joeten
About a year ago; I downloaded a trial version of Pinnacle systems. I didn't care for it. It took an extreme amount of doing to delete the software. Even the suggestions from the source were of no help. On my own; I was finally able to delete most of the program.

I still have entries in the registry for this product. I tried to remove them manually, but couldn't. I always get this message: Cannot delete Pinnacle Systems; Error while deleting key, or either 'Access Denied'. I have tried Special Permissions, but that doesn't work. I have tried removing these entries with RegSeeker. That doesn't work. I also have tried Malwarebytes' Reg ASSASSIN, which says it removes them, but doesn't; or; it says it can't see them.

It may seem trivial; but I want to be in control of my computer. I will remove these entries, if it means a clean install. Hopefully, someone at TSF can offer a better solution.

Re: Do Or Die

look in my comment for ccleaner, other then ccleaner never use reg cleaners or orginizers, or what ever there called, so yah, try ccleaner
Re: Do Or Die

I have and use ccleaner. It is not designed to correct the issue I mention, here. Therefore; it will not. Anyone else?

Please, and thank you.
Re: Do Or Die

Hi other than find each reg entry and removing it manually I'am not sure there is anything else to do, a few odd entries is not going to do any harm, the one other thing I can think of is reinstall then use revo uninstaller to remove it
Re: Do Or Die

I agree with Joeten. if you really want to get rid of it use revo uninstaller or the manually way is with "regedit" and using the search box/thing... just make sure you backup 1st and use your brain when deleting stuff.
Re: Do Or Die

Thanks, Joe and James

Since Pinnacle's own removal exe wouldn't remove it; I did use Revo. After removing a program; Revo searches for left over registry items and presents them for your removal. If anyone will check; they will find that Revo rarely finds all leftover items for your removal, as in the case here.

Yes; the registry entries will do no harm. I'm more concerned about not being able to do what I want with my computer. I would really like to know why Special Permissions will not change for this item. As a matter of fact; I have never gotten Special Permissions to work for any item. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong. Any thoughts on this?
Re: Do Or Die

Administrator account may be what is required Enable the (Hidden) Administrator Account on Windows 7 or Vista - How-To Geek then grant the permission to the other account
Re: Do Or Die

Thanks, Joe

I opened Admin Acct And still couldn't remove these items. While in Admin Acct; I went to Special Permissions and granted Administrator and 'User' (my computer name and my account name) special permissions for these objects. It did no good, as you can see in the pictures. Unless you have other suggestions; all I can say is ' It's been over a year since I did a clean install. So; it's about time for one, anyway.

Re: Do Or Die

Use Pinnacle RegDelete to remove the pesky Registry Files
Re: Do Or Die

I appreciate your suggestion to use Pinnacle RegDelete. After applying the application and then rebooting; the registration entries are still there.

Re: Do Or Die

Browse their forums and post there
Re: Do Or Die

I browsed their forum a bit. I found nothing pertaining to my issue. Last year; I had an e-mail conversation with a representative from Pinnacle about this issue. The suggestions he offered did not help.

Actually, I feel Microsoft could have done much better in how it permits users to delete items from the registry.

I'm going to leave this thread open for a while, hoping someone can help me override these Special Permissions, or share some explicit instructions in it's use.

I appreciate every suggestion I've been given.

Thanks a lot, Guys

Re: Do Or Die

I'm sure someone else had faced your dilemma and posting in the Pinnacle Forums will get you a faster answer then here.
Re: Do Or Die

I'm sure you are right. I feel a clean install would be less of a hassle, though.
As I said, it's about time anyway... and I'm sure Tory would appreciate it.
(Tory is the pet name I gave my computer)

Again, thanks, guys.
Re: Do Or Die

If your happy to do that then we will not talk you out of it.I doubt you would want to do otherwise
Re: Do Or Die

I would be happier being able to delete these items, because I'm sure it can be done.

I think I will leave this thread open for a while. If I or someone else finds a way around this Special Permissions matter; I would like for it to be posted in this thread.

You, James and spunk.funk offered some possible solutions I would have never thought of, and I am grateful.

I really appreciate you guys working with me on this issue.

Thanks, again

Re: Do Or Die

Joe,

Thanks for the two links. They both pretty much lead me to the same place, and that was 'taking ownership of the keys'.. I followed their instructions, and came up with what you see in the attachment.
