I'm having Problems with my CPU overheating and shutting down the pc when it's under a load, I run the stress test in everest and the temps go sky high. It just started doing it last night when I was converting a video file. I suspect the cpu is going bad. Here are my system specs. Also there are 5 extra cooling fans 2 in front, 1 side, and 2 in back plus ps, cpu.

Re: CPU Overheating Under Load

The temps you posted look pretty cool to me. Im more into intel not
amd but basics still apply. How hot are you talking about, out the roof,
or what, how do you know its the temp? Have you tryed cleaning and
reapplying thermal compound, and maybe trying a better hsf. Is there
plenty of airflow. If you have a fan in the front it should be drawing
air in, if you have a fan on the side of the case it should be blowing
out, but Ive seen where the side fan blowing air in helps cool the cpu.
The fan on top of cpu should be blowing down. The fans in the back
should be sucking air out of the back. Make sure cabling and wires are
not obstructing air flow the best you can....

Re: CPU Overheating Under Load

Also AMD cpu's are able to take more heat than Intels.

Download speedfan in my signature as you do not want to trust just one reading.
This can also be your cpu causing the reboots..

Re: CPU Overheating Under Load

my fans in front blow in, the side blows in, and back ones blow out, the cabling is not a problem due to using round ones. the cpu temps go up to over 180 degrees plus playing games, converting videos and using everest stress test not all at the same time though enough to shut the system down. I am using speedfan along with everest and the temps are the same. it just started having the problem last night and i have it set not to reboot when power out. i cleaned the dust off the cpu fan and heatsink. i have never had this high temps before even when tech support sent a new cpu fan and heatsink with no thermal paste, but i did put new thermal paste on after reading in this forum. I suspect my cpu is going bad. many thanks but help!!

Re: CPU Overheating Under Load

I tried new arctic silver compound and the temps are still through the roof,

Motherboard Name Biostar N4SLI / NF4ST Series
Chassis Intrusion Detected Yes

Temperatures:
CPU 74 °C (165 °F)
CPU Diode 85 °C (185 °F)
SAMSUNG SP1203N 23 °C (73 °F)
Seagate ST3500630A 31 °C (88 °F)

Cooling Fans:
CPU 3375 RPM

Voltage Values:
CPU Core 1.49 V
+1.5 V 1.52 V
+3.3 V 3.23 V
+5 V 5.11 V
+12 V 11.97 V
+5 V Standby 4.92 V
VBAT Battery 3.02 V

and still temps still climbing after 1:30 sec of everest stress test and if I kept going the system will shut itself off, but it cools down fast.

Temperatures:
CPU 42 °C (108 °F)
CPU Diode 52 °C (126 °F)
SAMSUNG SP1203N 30 °C (86 °F)
Seagate ST3500630A 32 °C (90 °F)

Cooling Fans:
CPU 3516 RPM

Voltage Values:
CPU Core 1.49 V
+1.5 V 1.52 V
+3.3 V 3.26 V
+5 V 5.11 V
+12 V 12.03 V
+5 V Standby 4.92 V
VBAT Battery 3.04 V

after 2 min of no load...

any suggestions would help...

Re: CPU Overheating Under Load

How long since you blew dust out of all your fans and the heatsink? You may be putting too much thermal paste on your CPU. Remember, too much is as bad or worse than not enough. YOu need to clean it off and try again following these instructions:

Re: CPU Overheating Under Load

I cleaned the heatsink by taking the fan off, brushed and blew all the other fans off with canned air, and followed the instructions on the arctic silver site just a bb size drop. I then reinstalled the heatsink but it only dropped the temps 5C and still overheats...
maybe a new cooler like ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185125
might help?

many thanks

Re: CPU Overheating Under Load

Is the heatsink fan blowing down on the heatsink or pulling hot air up from it?

Yes, an aftermarket cooler might help if other methods don't help you.

That CPU should not run that hot if everything is hooked up correctly in the cooling area. I have an Athlon 3700+ San Diego core (very similar to that Venice you have) and it runs around 32c at rest and under-stress about 45c. It has never gone over 50c at any time. I have one fan in front pulling in cool air (antec 3 speed running on slowest speed), one fan in back pulling out hot air (antec 3 speed running on slowest speed) and that is all.

Re: CPU Overheating Under Load

Here are my temps after taking the old heatsink off which had excessive thermal compound from tech support and installing an aftermarket hsf COOLER MASTER RR-CCH-L9U1-GP 92mm Hyper TX2 CPU Cooler http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103031

only cost me $8 after rebate and works like a charm...

Motherboard Name Biostar N4SLI / NF4ST Series
Chassis Intrusion Detected Yes

Temperatures:
CPU 31 °C (88 °F)
CPU Diode 37 °C (99 °F)
SAMSUNG SP1203N 30 °C (86 °F)
Seagate ST3500630A 32 °C (90 °F)

Cooling Fans:
CPU 1940 RPM

Voltage Values:
CPU Core 1.41 V
+1.5 V 1.52 V
+3.3 V 3.25 V
+5 V 5.11 V
+12 V 12.03 V
+5 V Standby 4.92 V

at rest and never over 44C under full load...

many thanks to you all and I'm a happy camper
problem solved
