Hi
I have just been given a Compaq Evo N800c and somebody has wiped the HD and i cant get it to boot from CDrom, can any body help me ,it lets me into the bios but not sure what the settings should be in there for booting nothing obvious springs to mind
Yes i acn find them but nothing i change makes it boot from disc, this laptop had got windows 2000 pro on and is a p4 with 1 gig of ram now just comes up with BOOTMGR missing .
So did it try to read the Windows 2000 installation CD? What is the exact error? If you got the BOOTMGR missing when it attempted to boot from W2K install CD, may be you should replace the install CD with a good/working one.
Yes it does try to read the cd ,iam trying to put xp on from a disc i have used several times before and the only error i get is BOOTMGR MISSING press ctrl- alt- del to restart,i have tried several different cds ,could it be the dvdrom ??? it does click a bit at first but then spins up as normal.
I doubt if it's the DVD/CD drive. I suggest you try another bootable CD (like Memtest86+, or Ubuntu). Testing another (known to work) bootable CD will at least give you an idea if it is the drive or something else. If you get the same error using Memtest86+ (for example) then it could be saying that it is not booting from the CD/DVD drive.
