I borrowed a laptop from my sister while my laptop is out of commission. I've been trying to use the wifi, but the connection keeps dropping. I've tried following different pieces of advice from the internet, and I still can't get it working.

Any advice?

This is the result of ipconfig /all

Re: Can't maintain wifi connection in Windows Vista

Well, it's Windows Vista, not 7, but the steps are basically the same. I tried that before, and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Re: Can't maintain wifi connection in Windows Vista

There was an update for my network adapters on Automatic Updates, so I installed it. Now the wifi is slightly better (though keeps dropping), but the wired connection doesn't work.

When you say the wired connection doesn't work, what exactly happens??

Both wired and wireless are connected . . which do you want to use?

Re: Can't maintain wifi connection in Windows Vista

Ideally, I want to connect to wireless, but as it is dodgy, I've been using the ethernet cable. The wired connection has a red X next to it, despite the fact that the same ethernet cable as I had plugged in before, and which was working, is plugged in.

I rolled back the driver, and now the wired connection works. I still need to get the wireless working if possible. I don't know if it's worth investing in a wireless dongle.

What internet security suite(anti-virus and firewall) do you have installed?

Re: Can't maintain wifi connection in Windows Vista

Thanks for that first can you try removing the security from your router and delte your wireless profiles from the computer and try and connect and surf without issues as a test.

Please let others know in the household that you are doing this as a test so they are aware there may be a loss of connectivity.

Please let us know the results.
