Hello :)

I have a computer connected via cable to my router and it was working before, for months now, when all of the sudden my connection died. I reset my router and it took longer than before to turn on. Now i cant connect to it (firefox says site is busy or something) nor access the internet from there. But, on my other computer, which connects through wireless card, i can access the router and internet!

I haven't messed up with any of the settings in the cabled PC so i cant figure out what is wrong with it! :| I'm scanning for virus atm just to be safe. Can it be a virus?

Thanks guys! ;)

Re: Can't connect to router but have internet

Since a wireless machine connects, this appears to be something local to your machine or it's connection.

Try a new cable, and a different port on the router.

Let's try a basic stack repair.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

Now, I'd like to see the result of this:

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

And finally, do this.

Try these simple tests.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: Can't connect to router but have internet

I tried a new cable in a different port of the router, same result. Long time to acquire network address, then the icon disappears. But it doesn't fail it says network im connected :| I cant access the router anyways.

Re: Can't connect to router but have internet

You have an autoconfiguration address of 169.254.x.x, which indicates your machine isn't seeing a DHCP server. Did you try the repair I posted?

What is the translation of the Node type? Difusão You need to translate the data as well as the descriptions. I know where stuff is in an IPCONFIG display, but I can't decode the data.
