I am experiencing precisely the same problems as WrenAndStimpy, other than that I have no issues with Firefox. Here is the text file you requested of her:

# Copyright © 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a "#" symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
#
127.0.0.1 localhost

The problem is not solved for me. Help, please! :)

Re: Cannot browse to some webpage with IE7

It's inconsistent. Sometimes, IE will remain open, but most times, it'll close immediately upon opening. For example, when I read your question, I was in IE and tried to login and IE closed. (I am posting from Foxfire right now.)

Absolutely every time I open a favorite, IE crashes. All my cookies and history have been deleted (intentionally, by me, hoping that might be the problem).

Re: Cannot browse to some webpage with IE7

Thanks. I tried this "reset IE" feature, and I'm experiencing the same problems.

Any other ideas? Must I reformat my drive, and reinstall everything?

Re: Cannot browse to some webpage with IE7

All webpages. Inconsistent -- sometimes a webpage will open fine (i.e., microsoft.com); other times, it will open, but when I click a link, it will close; other times, it will open for a minute or two and then (without my input) close the application.

I have work to do, and I've been working with this problem for 5 days -- I'm afraid I'll have to reformat and start over (which I've never done). What a pain.

Re: Cannot browse to some webpage with IE7

I finally gave up, reformatted the drive, and reinstalled Windows XP, but only with SP2. I have not reinstalled IE7, hoping not to get the same problem. Oh, well...

Thanks for the help, anyway.
