Re: Attacked by adware.vundo and adware.ezula - Hijack log help needed.

Welcome to TSF :hello:

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Re: Attacked by adware.vundo and adware.ezula - Hijack log help needed.

Well, that found a couple files. More than likely there is more, so lets see..

Download Combofix and save it to your desktop.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Close any open browsers.

2. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
  • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

Re: Attacked by adware.vundo and adware.ezula - Hijack log help needed.

Good job so far, just a couple more files to remove.

Open notepad and copy/paste the text in the quote box below into it:
File::
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\cyiacrdj.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\iddaclqq.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\gtonlxtx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\mktyvfgo.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bcexjjam.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ervwqrla.ini
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\myuacvns.ini
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\avbwtwly.dll
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tttss.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\tttss.ini2
C:\DOCUME~1\MARANU~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\pmkjg.dll
Registry::
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{8b5248d6-7b9d-4082-b6dd-df9c9200d03c}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{961AC09E-A137-4BB8-9F72-BDA237F4C699}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\~\Browser Helper Objects\{E07C5413-05DD-4D97-8DB4-BCFDF0D8645A}]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\efcbywu]
[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\winlogon\notify\urqnlii]
Save this as CFScript.txt

Referring to the picture above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe

When finished, it shall produce a log for you at "C:\ComboFix.txt". In your next reply, please include the ComboFix log and a fresh HIjackthis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Note:Please do not use this script on another computer, you may damage the system. The script is made especially for this computer only!!!!

==================================

Please perform a scan with Panda ActiveScan - ActiveScan does not remove adware/spyware but will autoclean for viruses & worms. 1. Click "Scan Your PC". 2. A new window will open. Click "Check Now!". 3. Fill in your registration and click "Scan Now!". 4. You may receive an alert on the address bar that "This site might require the following ActiveX control...Click here to install...". Click on that alert and then Click Install ActiveX component. 5. A new window will appear asking "Do you want to install this software?"" Name: asinst.cab. 6. Select "Install" to download the ActiveX controls that allows ActiveScan to run. 7. If running MSAS beta you may receive an alert that an IE ActiveX program requires your approval. Click "Allow". 8. Select a device to scan: Click on "Local Disks" [allow it to Auto Clean]. 9. When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the "See Report button", then "Save Report" to your desktop. 10. Post back the results of your scan and any infected files that are found but not deleted.

Re: Attacked by adware.vundo and adware.ezula - Hijack log help needed.

Thanks again for the help here, but we're not done yet. In checking my local grive, it found 2 viruses (both disinfected), 60 instances of spyware, and 3 "hacking tools and rootkits". Here are my results. Let me know what to do, if anything. (NOTE: I'm just posting the "Incident" and "Status" info, as I couldn't get the "Location" to post right on the boards. If you need that info, let me know.):

Re: Attacked by adware.vundo and adware.ezula - Hijack log help needed.

Run HijackThis, and press "Do a System Scan Only".
1. When the scan is complete place a check mark next to the following entries:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: urqnlii - urqnlii.dll (file missing)

2. After checking these items CLOSE ALL open windows EXCEPT HijackThis and click "Fix Checked." Then, reboot your computer...

In your next reply, please include a fresh HIjackthis log. How is everything running??

Re: Attacked by adware.vundo and adware.ezula - Hijack log help needed.

So far, so good. I haven't seen any IE pop-ups (which was odd, as I use FireFox) and I've stopped seeing the Norton warnings about different adware attacks being "blocked". Speaking of Norton, I seem to be getting prompted to update my Norton almost every time I logon. Could that be a bi-product of the work we're doing here or is it a virus? Other than that, my computer is running better. Thanks again. Are we done here?

Re: Attacked by adware.vundo and adware.ezula - Hijack log help needed.

I don't think so.. When was the last time you updated Norton??

Your log is clean!!!! :thumbsup2:

Lets clean up some stuff, i had you download.

You can delete this file and folder
C:\VundoFix Backups

On your Desktop
VundoFix.exe

Please go to Start---> Run---> In the space provided, type ComboFix /u. This will uninstall ComboFix and all its components.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:

  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

Now that your system is clean you should SET A NEW RESTORE POINT to prevent future reinfection from the old restore point AFTER cleaning your system of any malware infection. Any trojans or spyware you picked up could have been saved in System Restore and are waiting to re-infect you. Since System Restore is a protected directory, your tools can not access it to delete files, trapping viruses inside. Setting a new restore point should be done to prevent any future reinfection from the old restore point and enable your computer to "roll-back" in case there is a future problem.

To SET A NEW RESTORE POINT:
1. Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools and click "System Restore".
2. Choose the radio button marked "Create a Restore Point" on the first screen then click "Next". Give the R.P. a name then click "Create". The new point will be stamped with the current date and time. Keep a log of this so you can find it easily should you need to use System Restore.
3. Then go to Start > Run and type: Cleanmgr
4. Click "OK".
5. Click the "More Options" Tab.
6. Click "Clean Up" in the System Restore section to remove all previous restore points except the newly created one.

Graphics for doing this are in the following links if you need them.
How to Create a Restore Point.
How to use Cleanmgr.

======================================

Here is some useful information on keeping your computer clean:
  1. Most important thing is to make sure Windows is kept up to date with the latest patches and updates from Windows Update.
  2. Here are two great Preventive programs:
    • SpywareBlaster protects you from malicious ActiveX controls and cookies. Make sure and check for updates twice a month.
    • IESpyads adds a long list of bad sites to your Restricted sites in Internet Explorer and protects against drive by downloads.
  3. Surf Safe with McAfee's SiteAdisor. SiteAdisor will work with Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. SiteAdisor is a browser plugin that assigns a safety rating to domains listed in your search engine. SiteAdvisor uses the following color codes to indicate the safety level of each site.
    • Red for Warning
    • Yellow for Use Caution
    • Green for Safe
    • Grey for Unknown
Here are the link to install SiteAdisor in Internet Explorer and Firefox
  4. Anti-Spyware Programs I Recommend:
    • Free Anti-Spyware Programs

Re: Attacked by adware.vundo and adware.ezula - Hijack log help needed.

Files deleted. Java updated. New restore point created. Tips noted.

My Norton is new, I just renewed it. As of today, it's telling me it expires in 325 days. The updates are done pretty regularly, but over the past couple of days, I've been getting prompted daily to update the definitions. But I haven't seen anything in the past 2 hours, so maybe its resolved.

Thanks so much for the help. It is appreciated.
