I have a asus p5k3 deluxe wifi motherboard, a intel quad core Q6600, visiontek 3870 graphics card, dual channel ocz 1024MB DDR3 memory an western digital 500g hard drive, a ultra x3 1000w power supply and a liteon sata dvd burner and when i had everything installed i booted up and began to install the os which is vista home premium 32 bit and it started to download and after about a minute the computer powers off.

So i tried multiple things, i went into bios as fast as i could and changed the ram voltage to 1.9v thinking it needed more volts saved and exited and same thing happened, then i went into bios and checked the temperature and it wasnt running hot and have plenty of fans the pc already has the grease applied so it was overheating and then i went into bios and underclocked everthing and saved and exited and the same thing happened. so i figure it to be the mobo and returned it to asus they said they fixed it and when i got it back still same thing it powers off after a minute....also i borrowed my friends powers supply and still have the same problem and tried different cables...i have no idea what to do. any ideas?

Re: Asus p5k3 deluxe motherboard powers off after a minute

yeah i have everything back to factory settings and i just did the bench test and I have the mb cpu graphics card and one ram stick hooked up and i fired it up and was in bios and was checking the temp it looked good and then it shut off again so that pretty much confirms that is has to be the mb again, all the fans are running fine and and the graphics card is running fine too so.....and my system is built for a 32bit so i dont know..

Re: Asus p5k3 deluxe motherboard powers off after a minute

have you updated the bios
do a cmos reset
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
replace the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer

there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver
2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper
a cmos clear switch or button
there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual

Re: Asus p5k3 deluxe motherboard powers off after a minute

yes you can but you don't want to do it until it is stable,if it goes down mid flash you will be in a worse position than you are now
see if the cmos reset stabilises it

Re: Asus p5k3 deluxe motherboard powers off after a minute

mine runs like a dream and thats the only real difference between the 2 systems i can see
so thought it worth checking
try it out of the case
set it up out of the case on a piece of cardboard with
cpu
video
ram
speaker
and see if you get post
check you have the correct amount of standoffs no more no less
that they line up with the holes in the m/board
usually 9

Ok i cleaned and redid the paste on the cpu with the arctic silver 5 and the standoff is fine and the temp is 36 on cpu and raised to 44 and seems to be stabilized has been on for at least 10 minutes now....i think that it may be ok now, i will let you know when i get everything set up on it and how it goes, but thanks alot for all your help and everyone else that helped out too i definitely learned a lot, this is my first time building a computer if you couldn't tell but live and learn ya know, thanks again
