I'm trying to mess with my parents head by connecting to their computer that I recently installed linux on. I'm not exactly familiar with bash, but I need a way to turn off that initial "[email protected]:~$" prompt.

They're going to be home soon, so please help me quick. I'm going to do that whole, Hello Neo... thing

there was a setting when you installed asking whether you wanted to sign on when booting, you should have said no

apart from that do you think it wise to mess with your folks PC .. they may have files & details on there that are vital to their needs apart from the fact that you shouldn't do anything without their permission.

Can it still boot windows ?? hope you didn't delete or format anything or no amount of prayer on our parts will save you from your own mis-deeds

Heh, I'm 20 and fairly decent with Windows, learning Linux based o/s's though. They're home and I already had my fun. They're learning it and loving it. The only thing they want is their pictures and music. The rest is already there. Only program I needed to install has a linux version--checked the install on my PC first.

Don't worry, It's just networking I absolutely suck at, and I'm learning linux more and more. So I should've not created a user? Hmmm... alright, I'll mess with a few things. Thanks

Don't remove the user account, that's a bad idea. The prompt and whatnot can be configured to do whatever you want. The user account, however, is required.

I'm reading more about bash. It's a fun little guy lol. I'm also messing with it so it can talk back more intelligently. Fighting me EVERY step of the way too
