I have just had the same error message, laptop just stopped firing up, was told had a boot virus, wiped the drive and now want to reinstall vista. Comes up with the error code 4?

Any help would be much appreciated. The laptop is an Advent 7204.

When does the error come up? What exactly were you doing or what part of Vista installation did the error occur?

Thanx guys, somehow managed to get the installation running, used an old Windows 98 disc for the missing files, working like a bomb now...
