I have a small network of PC's and and a laptop, the laptop is installed with Windows 7 pro, has difficultity getting reconnected to the network, its always takes its time acquiring an IP address, applications needing internet access then stall, an the monent my network has a server, DHCP is turned off on the router, every PC has a static IP address, my laptop is configured with an alternative configuration with static IP address for my network, normal TCP/IP settings are set to automatically, yet every time i boot up my laptop it struggles to resolve the IP address, leaving a Yellow triangle over the Network icon in the System tray, the IP address eventually will resolve it self allowing internet connect, I Can't seem workout what is slowing procoess down, any applications like web browser, updates, become non-responsive until the connection is fully established.

Any ideas would be much apprecicated

Re: Acquiring an IP Addresss with Win7

Hi woodmeadow,

What's the O/S on the Server? Do you have DHCP configured from the Server and Static IP excluded?

Please post an ipconfig /all of the problematic computer for review.

Re: Acquiring an IP Addresss with Win7

Thanks for the ipconfig info and snapshot of the server roles installed.

If your router's DHCP is disabled and I don't see DHCP server configured that explains it why your computer is not acquiring Auto IP.

You may configure/add DHCP server from the Windows Server or enable DHCP from the router or assign Static IP to your computer to resolve this issue.
Re: Acquiring an IP Addresss with Win7

Turned DHCP on router back on, configured an IP address pool, so my static IP addresses are outside the pool, to avoid any IP conflicts. My Laptop now finds its IP address quicker when connecting to my network, also put the alternate configuration set back to automatic private ip address in TCP/IP properties, where i had previously defined a Static IP address.
Now works better with your method many thanks
