When I go to my add/remove programs and try to remove certain programs i get the error message
" C:WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application."

Its gives the ''Close'' and ''Ignore'' options but no matter which is chosen the program remains on my computer. how can i get rid of the program and other programs that are not responsive to the add/remove programs prompts???

Thanks in advance!

Re: 16 bit Window Sub system????

If BG's link does not help, you can always try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility which you can download from the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

That will enable you to remove the relevant installation entries from the registry and once you have done that, you can remove the leftover traces from Program Files and elsewhere.

If you get stuck, don't hesitate to ask for further help
