[SOLVED] “Access Denied - When trying to remove a folder.

Yesterday I reinstalled a computer game which has user-settings that I didn't want to go through all the trouble to remake. So I cut them(desktop) out and pasted them into my newly installed game folder.

c:\program files\game\desktop\User\user1
c:\program files\game\desktop\User\user2
c:\program files\game\desktop\User\user3\AAA
c:\program files\game\desktop\User\user3\BBB
c:\program files\game\desktop\User\user4
c:\program files\game\desktop\User\user5

^That is what it looks like, and the only folders that cannot be removed are the user1-2, 4-5 and AAA/BBB.
(“access
denied, make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that
the file is not currently in use”, is the error message that I get)

I've tried rebooting, getting ownership through safemode/admin account. I also tried the Unlocker and WhoLockMe Tools, WhoLockMe was useless but Unlocker was able to rename the folders, but couldn't remove them.

If it helps, I noticed the problem when I quit the game and I got a message saying something like "Could not create file in \program files\game\desktop\user\userX", the game was obviously trying to update my settings but couldn't because they somehow got f'ed up during the cut/paste process. (?)

Im pretty sure that I've done this before and it worked all fine.

The question: Is there any way to remove or access these folders?

Oh and, I'm using WinXP Home, SP2.

Re: “Access Denied" - When trying to remove a folder.

there are different utilities out there that may work, try moveonboot or killbox

if you should happen to have a linux bootdisk, you can always boot to linux and delete them that way.

Re: “Access Denied" - When trying to remove a folder.

Maybe the files is running. I suggest you to use Unlocker to delete the files. =)
Well, I've uninstalled all programs connected with the folders, and neither Unlocker, MoveOnBoot or Killbox (which I just tried) worked.
For some strange reason Unlocker can rename three of the folders, but not the remaining ones, and it can remove none.

Killbox gives me the following message - "This File could not be Deleted"
MoveOnBoot didn't say anything at all.

And when I try to rename the folders that could NOT be renamed by Unlocker, I get the - "Error cannot read from source file or disk" message.

edit: I just tried to rename the folders with Unlocker again, now I cannot even rename the ones that I could rename earlier. They all give me the "Error cannot read from source file or disk" message.

the only other thing I can think of is to uninstall the game, delete the folders if they are still there and reinstall.

I have uninstalled as much as possible, but the "desktop" folder is next in line to be deleted by the uninstall-file, and since it is f'ed up I can't uninstall.
And even if I would delete all the files by hand, without the uninstall-file, I would still be unable to remove the "desktop" folder.

Re: “Access Denied" - When trying to remove a folder.

Just thought I'd let you know that the problem is solved.

Apparently I could move the "desktop" out from the "game" folder, and when I did, all the files inside the folder came back to normal and I could delete them.

C:\Program Files\Ultima Online 2D\Desktop\*Accountname - was the troublesome folder. I didn't think that I could move a folder containing locked files, but I was wrong.

I have no idea what could've caused this though.
